Best American Chinese food I've had yet in Texas, very affordable too! My husband got the shrimp lo mein and I had the sweet and sour chicken, we both ordered them spicy, and we also ordered appetizers of cheese wontons and egg rolls, all was delicious! The spicy is just the right amount of spice to us, if you enjoy eating jalapenos you'll enjoy the spicy, and the taste of the peppers itself is very good! All of this was about $30. Will gladly eat here again when in the area!
I will say the food is somewhat bland compared to what most Americans are used to, it's not super salty or overly sweet and the fried rice is plain rice, soy sauce, and oil (it's also a bit on the dry side but in Asian cooking you actually want that in a fried rice, that's why they use old rice for it), but the food still has enough flavor and the quality of the cook on everything is so good that I really do not mind one bit. The orange chicken has an amazing crunch as does the other fried foods like the wontons and egg rolls, there are also candied orange peels in the orange chicken that take an already amazing dish up a notch. The lo mein tastes delicious and I find it hard to describe what makes a good lo mein, but I have had plenty of "okay" lo mein, theirs is exactly what you want in a lo mein and I haven't had what I would consider to be a good lo mein in Texas until I came...
Read moreI read the reviews and went here based on those reviews. The service was as reported. It is definitely an authentic experience. However, I just did not find the food to be all that great. In my opinion, I think perhaps something needed to be switched/cleaned out or more fresh. I got the shrimp fried rice as that is what I was craving and wanted. The shrimp was fresh, but the rice tasted a bit old. I think this could have come from the wok or oils it was fried in. I think if it had not been for that, it would have tasted so much better. The service was great, but I just didn't get the freshness I was expecting because, again, the rice tasted old and...
Read moreLived in the neighborhood for 7+ years and today was my first time trying Gourmet China. Never judge a book by its cover!! Suffice to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The outside looks sketchy, while the inside is opposite. Very clean and simple. Service was great. I ordered Orange chicken, kung pao chicken, hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, egg rolls and cheese wonton. All, very VERY good. Orange chicken sauce is divine. Portions are large, 2 entrees filled my family of 5...
