Sitting here enjoying my Old Fashioned and bowl of French Fries watching the world go by on an amazing patio. I couldn't ask for any other way to end my long day of work and some stress, but at Hillside. Came here after passing it for a while on the way to work in Garland. So glad I stopped as from the door to the table to the bar everyone is so nice and boasts a relaxing atmosphere. With blues playing it is so easy to sip and enjoy everything they have to offer.
Unfortunately it was a miss for me with the fried bologna sandwich, but the patty melt they brought instead was so amazing! It came on Texas Toast and was stuffed with tons of peppers and onions. Oh so melty, gooey, and good!
And my waiter was so nice and kind about everything especially since I was so indecisive in the beginning about my food and drink orders.
I definitely would come back for the chill atmosphere and food. Especially the fries that are house made and seasoned with...
Read morenew to the neighborhood, hillside tavern is a good spot for bar food and visiting. It was very busy on a Wednesday night. Unfortunately, The food was very uneven. The cheeseburger and onion rings were excellent, the patty melt was good but bland, and the fish and chips instead of being crunchy were chewy and they're not recommended. there's a good bit of sugar in the seasoning used on the fries and onion rings, more than I like. Our server was busy, but reasonably attentive. The physical environment is very loud.I could not hear the people I was visiting with sitting on a couch and chair immediately adjacent to each other. Otherwise, it is a comfortable it was too hot when we were there for the patio, but thait was too hot when we were there for the patio, but that's where I'd say I took it all possible on a return visit. hillside tavern is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, I just wish the food were a little...
Read moreWith all the good things I heard about the food here, it was a MAJOR disappointment. My wife got the nachos which were lazily created with all the ingredients dumped on a pile of already soggy chips. I had the Long Walk chicken sandwich which was swimming in sauce on a “brioche bun” that tasted like a hamburger bun from Kroger’s. Other than the bun, all I tasted was sauce. I ate half and couldn’t do anymore. $11 for a chicken sandwich!! No fries. No sides at all and all I could choke down was half. The waiter didn’t seem curious at all when I told him I didn’t need a take home box. Then we waited 20 minutes after we were “done” to get our check. Truly don’t get why this place was crowded. Really wanted to like this place. We need more good restaurants in the area. Won’t be going back...
