I have been going to this Taco Joint since it opened…many years for the first few years it was consistently good, but in the last few years it is terribly inconsistent. I have spoke to some sort of big boss on the phone a few years ago and addressed this. It has never changed. Today we wanted to grab a quick lunch before we went to the mall and I ordered the nachos as did my 19 year old grandson. He had seen his mom’s nachos from Lake Highlands place and wanted some. They came out and he said they didn’t look like his moms. Our nachos had a smear of beans, 2 or 3 pieces of chicken and a sparse coating of cheese. So he proceeded to put the watery queso on them and eat them. I’m done. This place is five minutes from my house and I’m going to Lake Highlands from now on. Every time I’ve eaten there it’s good. Lakewood is ALWAYS hit or miss. Food is sometimes good and sometimes not. I’ve mentioned the watery queso to one of the cashiers and he replied, yes that’s why I always order the spicy queso because it’s never watery😳. Examples are: Watery queso a lot Egg tacos with eggs at one end and meat at the other. Enchiladas sometimes filled correctly sometimes very little meat. I’ve even sent a picture of my Early Bird Enchiladas to someone showing the lack of meat. Tacos filled very well sometimes barely filled. I have complained enough and there has been no change, for years. So I will drive the 15 minutes when I get the urge for Taco Joint. Not...
Read moreSo I wanted a bean burrito and I remembered this place served a delicious one! Stopped by, and order one with some chorizo and some other upgrades and I was disappointed. Cotija cheese is what I thought they would use and mix it into the beans along with the chorizo, boy was I disappointed. They used cheddar (not bad, just not great either) and they didn't mix the chorizo in with the beans. I'm not sure if they understand that ground chorizo isn't very good, you generally want it mixed in with your beans or your eggs works too. If it was a kielbasa style, then I would be down, but this wasn't that. It ended up being mostly at the end of my burrito so I left munching a tortilla (tasty) and a mouth full of greasy, salty, ground chorizo. To pay over $10 for a bean, cheese, chorizo burrito that wasn't prepared well was a bit disappointing, but they still get 3 stars for the beans being good! Oh, I forgot there was also queso in it that honestly didn't do much for the burrito, but I wasn't upset that it was there. However, much like the chorizo it was isolated to one section (the middle) and it was like taking a shot of queso. I will eat there again, next time I'll just stick...
Read moreIt baffles me how this location has as high of a rating it does. Below are frustrations I had with the restaurant.
Absolutely ZERO seasoning on both types of street tacos, beyond this the actual meat quality was not good or appetizing. I genuinely cannot believe how absolutely horrific it was. This is not a "I could have done better," it's that I don't think I could have done worse without intentionally sabotaging myself.
tortillas as soggy/oily despite the meat not causing the moisture, nor a sauce. inside is kind of beaten/run down and not appetizing prices are somewhat high, and extremely high for what you actually get queso is subpar
There are so many other options for better tacos and texmex. I have never had a taco as bad as their street tacos in my...
