It's always fascinating how a seemingly wrong turn on an unfamiliar road can guide to you to where you need to be.
I'm not one for stopping into donut shops, especially at random. But I had never heard of Rings, and something about it drew me in. I chatted with Stephanie for a little bit, who is great, by the way, and left with a coffee and a blue berry fritter. This is not your average donut shop.
First impression: Rings is very clean and welcoming. All of the donuts look fresh and well made. I'm not sure how a donut is not well made, but these look solid. The colors and textures stood out to me. Nothing lazy or uninspired.
Worth noting: to the right of the display case, there is a shelf that is home to "yesterday's donuts." There were two boxes, both filled to capacity with appealing donuts. Not gross or melted or crumbly leftovers. Obviously, they are from the day prior, but they look like they hold well, and each box is $12 (we're talking 15-20 donuts per box). I'll definitely give these a go and report back.
Big shout to Stephanie! Thank you for the warm welcome and the recommendations! It's ways encouraging to cross paths with people who are authentically themselves, and wear it well. I...
Read moreMy family is full of donut snobs and this place has the “it” factor. We've been to many of the top donut shops in the area- as well as other cities and this place is near the top. Went there on Sunday and plan to go back soon. The quality of service and variety of high quality donuts is at the top of the pack. They have discounts based on quantity which is not always spelled out at more premium donut shops so that’s a plus. They have a wide variety of premium and standard options. We got old fashioned, sprinkled, blueberry, chocolate a fritter and a cronut and all of them were top notch. It wasn't very busy around 7:30 in the morning. The service was excellent- you could tell they cared about the product and guest experience. The location is very central- easy for lots of Dallas to get to. I hope lots of people give it a try and compare it to their favourite shops. It's a good mix of a traditional shop and more premium experience. If you are looking for a good quality donut experience in the area I suggest you give...
Read moreI stopped in this morning around 8:30am. There were still plenty of donuts available. I wouldn't say they have a huge selection, but it felt more like they just stick to what they know. I loved the clean white atmosphere - different than most donut shops (in a good way). The staff was friendly and informative. The food - I ordered a blueberry cake donut. I didn't much care for it. The flavor was so muted, that there wasn't much to taste except "fried" flavor. It also left a less than desirable mouth-feel. I'd like to try a regular chocolate donut to see if I can change my mind. I also got their kolaches. Be aware that if you order "2 kolaches" you will get 2 bags of 6 mini pigs in a blanket. They were delicious! I wouldn't call them kolaches, though. They were completely encased in crispy breading. These are mini corndogs. Again, it is delicious, but more a corndog than kolache.
Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere and clean presentation as well as the "kolaches". I'll be back to try...
