They have been working on this place for a good while, was waiting on them to finally open(3/29/23) and it was worth the wait. They have successfully transformed the old North Star seafood into a truly authentic Mexican experience!!! A breath of fresh air for the town of Dallas, they offer an extensive menu, they do offer a petitioned off bar and they ARE serving a fully stocked assortment of liquor and beer. Out of curiosity I stopped in for taco to go which was easily the biggest taco I've ever seen let alone eaten👍 I'll get back in there when I can dive into that large menu they offer. There were smiles everywhere, both staff and the departing customers!! This is a nice new restaurant It looks and feels new, I'm sure you'll have a good first impression upon walking in !!! ***** I made it back on a Wednesday evening and they were full had to wait a couple minutes for a table, but it is worth the wait. Our food was really good and plentiful!!! Their food presentation is outstanding here,I seen some very good looking, colorfull dishes being served here and that is noteworthy to me!! And the food is awesome!!!! 90% of the giant menu is priced between 8.99 and 13.99. and the beer I thought was cheap. But I have to agree with a couple other reviews the service here isn't the fastest!!! No rhythm!!! That's an easy fix though. This restaurant is the best thing that happened to Dallas since building the new 321 all the way to Hickory!!!!😀 I look forward to my return trip here, there is a lot of options on the menu!!!

We have waited patiently for Papa’s and Beer to open. We have long been fans of the one on Brevard Road in Asheville. We finally made it to eat on Sunday, hoping it would be like the one in Asheville and not like the one in Shelby! We were very pleased! We arrived in between the lunch rushes. We were seated immediately and received chips & bean dip along with having our drink order taken. The salsa bar was fantastic with a good variety. I ordered one of my favorites, Sizzling Enchilada’s, they were AMAZING! My wife had the Enchilada’s Maria’s and enjoyed them as well. Our food was hot and fresh, mine on a sizzling skillet😀. As typical with Papa’s and Beer, the portions were large. Our server checked on us frequently and the costs were reasonable for what we received. On this visit, I would rank this as THE BEST Papa’s and Beer we have visited. We can’t wait to go back!

Update: I'm not sure what changed in the matter of two weeks but we went yesterday and it was like it was a completely different restaurant. Mind you were ordered the same dishes as previous. Neither one was even remotely good. After a couple bites we kindly asked for the check and left. This was a complete 180 from last time when the service was great and the food was delicious. Nobody even cared to ask why we didn't eat or how it was. I can't believe we waited so long to try this place. The food was some of the best we've had in gaston county and we eat alot of different mexican places. Our server, Nelly, was on top of everything and made recommendations of new things to try. We will definitely be back very soon!

I'm giving the waitress 3 stars because when she finally came to check on everyone she did try to make it right she really did HOWEVER.....this places food is simply not...great. We walk in everything is fine. We look at the menu and I notice this place is extremely expensive compared to other places. That's fine I found a very small section of $8.99 priced plates. I got a tamale rice and beans. Everyone's food comes out and our waitress disappears. As everyone is eating my party is taking notice that the flavors are different and not in the greatest way. I take one bite of the tamale and I immediately understood I'm not going to like this and I'm going to have to ask for something else. We wait and wait and wait everyone is finished with their food and I'm still waiting. When she comes out she tells me I can pick something else in the same price range and brings the cook?? out. I explained nothing is wrong with how it was cooked I just don't like the flavor. They put mole sauce (I think) on it for whatever reason. She takes my second order of taco rice and beans with the regular fixings on it of cilantro and onion. I ask her to just put it in a togo box. I noticed the taco had been Americanized with lettuce and a ridiculous amount of tomatoes. Okay fine I guess. Well when I get home the taco meat smells off and taste off. The tomatoes taste off and has this weird flavor. The rice is bland and mushy and the beans are water. I couldn't muster through this plate either so it got thrown away. All in all I waited for two plates of food I didn't like the second plate of food wasn't made the way I was told it would be and it was also not good. I don't recommend this place at all. If you want something off the wall different absolutely go for it. If you are looking for local quick bite to eat this isn't the...

I’m sure they’re still working out the kinks since they’re new, but this is the most lackluster Papas and Beer we’ve ever been to and we’ve visited several between the NC mountains, foothills, and SC. This is the second time we’ve visited and we were disappointed both times. Today, the waiter didn’t fully listen to quantities of what we ordered so we only got one of things and it took forever to get him back over towards our table to reorder after realizing he wasn't getting the rest of it. Our food was brought out one at a time so the first person was finished way before the last person, and the salsa bar was gross. There were no cups for salsa, a ton of lids sitting in water, and cups that had been dropped in the salsa sitting on the side. The food was also a bit different from the other restaurants. I would assume they'd all order similarly from food service, but even my children noticed the products used were different compared to even Shelby, which isn't far away. I heard a waitress mention they were short staffed, but there were several employees standing at the front desk, while only one or two served the entire restaurant. The decor of the restaurant is very nicely done and the music's not too loud, but the tables and chairs are so crammed together we had to shift our table to get in and out because the chairs at the table behind us only had an inch gap between ours and people were sitting in them. Also, the booth tables do not move and are very narrow, so if you're of any size, request a table in the middle and not around the perimeter of the restaurant. We're going to give it a while before coming back to see if it's just growing pains because Papas and Beer is one of our...

My family and I have loved Papa’s & Beer since they opened in Dallas. My husband and I had a terrible experience on Easter. We ordered off the lunch menu unaware that they don’t have a lunch menu.(Completely understand not having it on the weekends, but it wasn’t clear in the menu and our serve said nothing about it) My husband ordered a quesadilla grande thinking that it came with carnitas spinach and mushrooms. When he received it only had carnitas. He ask the waitress if they could add the veggies to this one. She doesn’t say anything and walks off. I’m assuming she was the manager comes to our table. My husband explains what he ordered and her response is we don’t have a lunch menu today. He acknowledges that’s fine can I get the quesadillas with veggies added. When his order comes back it’s just a quesadilla with veggies no carnitas. We flag our waitress down again, explain the issues and again walks away without acknowledging. The manager comes back and at the point I’m finished eating so my husband is like it wrong again I don’t even want it anymore just take it off our bill. She refuses because we’ve sent it back twice and that she has given us what we asked for. Unwilling to fix it for him.Not worth trying to argue with someone, so we just pay and leave.

I’m disappointed because we eat here weekly and the food is amazing. We’ve had slow service before but never rude service like this. Could have been the holiday weekend stress. Unfortunately we won’t be back for a while. I don’t want to waste my money on rude service and...
