My mom and I decided this review needed to happen, since all the reviews out there are glowing. I had a long, detailed review ready to send but I've decided to truncate it (and it's long). With all the wonderful reviews, we were excited to try out the afternoon tea, and then bring other family members in the near future. Thatâs not going to happenâŠ. This past Saturday, we arrived to have afternoon tea in celebration of Motherâs Day, with a rose for each of us and a pretty setting, which we loved. The place is quaint. Every staff member was friendly and profession. The tea was good and came out promptly (we had Peach Champagne, my fav, and Peach on White). I liked the presentation of the caprese salad, although it took over 30 minutes to receive it (second course). The scones, salad, tart and Ă©clair were good, but not worth the money we paid. Sadly, the staff appeared to have been disorganized, as the service was horrible. The menu is confusing. The yogurt parfait was a dab of yogurt and jam with a sprinkle of granola on a flat plate (totally different from the pictures uploaded by other reviews, so wish I had taken a picture), as it looked more like it would be used for dipping. Long story, short, it took them an hour to get to the tea sandwiches, which were okay (the bread was hard), after we asked them about it (was only on Course Two!). A side note, we saw a couple be seated and after 20 minutes of nobody waiting on them, they left. Anyway, as a peace offering, a waiter gave us spicy, avocado tea sandwich (1 each), which I loved (bread this time was perfect) but my mom thought was too spicy. Mind you, I had to pay $30 ($15 each) deposit when I made the reservation for high tea. The total price tag without tip was $80 ($40 each). Definitely, the worst high tea weâve ever experienced and the most expensive. The place was busy, which is a testament to their food, I believe, and so we donât want to give up on this place just yet. We hope to go back to have lunch, BUT we will NOT be bringing any of our family members, from all over the metroplex, and waste our money on afternoon...
Read moreI made a reservation here for my two daughters and myself. We were celebrating my oldests, 18th birthday (which I was told when I made the reservation, they would make special for her but I guess they forgot).
This wasnât our first tea room, but it was our first one here in TX. We frequented one in our small historic town in MD, 30 min outside of DC. What I really liked about my experience at Potpourri is, the ambience. The setting was quaint, inviting and what youâd hope when youâre having afternoon tea. Also, the service was fantastic. Our waiter knew his stuff and was friendly and efficient explaining what we could expect with each course. The tea-ware was also very pretty and the selection of teas (at least what we picked) were enjoyable. However, the food was JUST ok. Our favorite things we ate were the vege dumpling, and the vege pot pie, (served as 1st and 2nd courses), and the cucumber tea âsandwichâ which was one of the snacks on our tier (4th course).
The deserts offered, were disappointing. They were WAY too sweet, not creative in taste; much less than Iâd expect for French inspired pastry (I lived in Europe 10yrs, so I guess Iâm comparing).
$75 per person (not including tip) for very small portions (and small portions ARE normal at a tea room). But $75 for small portions that have no seafood or meat whatsoever is very high. Theyâre making a killing here. The ingredients they use do not AT ALL merit what they charge.
If the food had been great, Iâd bring friends back for sure. Iâve had so many friends excited to know the details on our experience at this tea room and sadly Iâve had to tell them, I CAN'T recommend this one, based on the overall quality of what we were served, for the price.
My girls and I had a wondeful time but we wonât be back to this tea room. We will be on the search for another one. I do wish Potpourri the...
Read moreEvery course of Afternoon Tea here had some special touches to make the price worthwhile. I've been to Afternoon Tea in many locations (often mistakenly called High Tea,) and many have excelled in some things - but none got everything right, plus more, the way Potpourri did. The setting was comfortable and our table was beautifully appointed with fine China and doilies (not unusual.) We also had sunshine and a bottle of sparkling water, which was poured for us as soon as we were seated. Our first course, even before sandwiches, was a yogurt parfait with strawberry and, I think, marscapone. I'm not a yogurt fan, so I can't believe I ate the whole thing. Then another new course, watermelon salad with a wonderful balsamic dressing. Finally, the three-tiered server with what is usually the first, second and third courses, was delivered by the chef - with explanations of all the made-from-scratch delicacies. We were surprised to see a mushroom mini-quiche added to the tea sandwiches. The cucumber sandwich used homemade cukes with a dollop of something delicious, aioli, and some fresh peas. I had never had an enhanced cucumber sandwich before. The chicken salad had candied walnuts and the avocado (we asked for a substitute from the beef in advance) had an interesting type of cheese. The flourishes put these sandwiches at the top of all tea sandwiches for me. Next the scone course. Only one scone? Yes, but rather large and among the 2 or 3 best anywhere. Often if the sandwiches are good, the scones are not. This was very good. I could only eat one of patisseries - excellent lemon tart with perfect crust and meringue with lavender. Only afterwards I realized there was no clotted cream or lemon curd. But we didn't really miss them, we did fine without them. In fact, best...
