I love Torchys, live right by the one at Preston and Forest in Dallas. However, the night of Cinco de Mayo (Taco Tuesday) it was a disaster. Ordered at 6:30 and app said it wouldn’t be ready till 7:04. Ok. Get there at 7 and it is PACKED (we still have the social distancing and stay at home orders in place). They had the orders that were ready on one table and EVERYONE who was waiting (1ft or less apart from each other, 15 people crowded at the table) were using their hands and gloved hands to touch and check each receipt. not exactly hygienic at a time like this. To top it off, the staff was announcing that all orders were 1 hour behind. No one was making announcements over a loud speaker so when I asked if I could wait outside or in my car, I wouldn’t be able to hear my name being called. Only the 15 people by the to go order table could hear because the announcement wasn’t made loudly. I ordered a crossroads family pack and guac and queso. We go back home and come back at 8 pm. Still no sign of my order and it’s now an hour late. The place is still packed and some of the same orders were sitting on the pick up table. Door dashers were getting restless and losing money while waiting, patrons were being turned away who wanted to order, and some people had been waiting for 2 hours. A manager offered to refund anyone’s order that wanted to. By 8:30 I decided to go with that option. When I give him my name and he looked at my order, he saw I ordered a crossroads family pack. He said “we are out of crossroads now anyway.” ARE YOU KIDDING!? So I waited for 2 hours and THEY DIDNT EVEN HAVE WHAT I ORDERED. Nothing was offered to be comped, just that I would get a refund on my card in the next day or so. Might be the last time we get torchys for a while. I have no idea why they would think it’s ok to be understaffed on a taco Tuesday on Cinco de Mayo but I can guarantee they will never make the same mistake. Very disappointed. Expect a remedy to my...
Read moreMy last trip was awful. We are in the middle of a Pandemic, but restaurants have opened again. Not willing to eat out, I preferred take out to get tacos for Cinco de Mayo. Most places with take out I’ve seen have had several precautions with the ongoing situation. This place didn’t. I arrived to find it cram-packed with people and no way to adhere to social distancing. On top of that, severa people were walking throughout this crowd without even wearing masks. Finally, all the food orders were put out on a table immediately once ready among the boards of people, many of who proceeded to touch every single bag once it was out to check if it was their own.
Ignoring the several issues with that, there was also an issue with the wait. When I arrived, I expected the wait to be longer than expected as it was so crowded. I was told it would be 30 minutes but could take up to 45 minutes for my order. Ok, that was doable. But after an hour, I was told just a few more minutes. And that continued until the 2 hour mark, where I finally was informed they had been out of chicken for over 2 hours (so before I ever even got there or placed my order) and my order of chicken tacos wasn’t actually possible. Why they didn’t make this clear upfront is beyond me. I do t mind if they were out or busy, but just let me know so I can go somewhere else instead of waiting 2 hours to let me know that there was absolutely no purpose to my wait and I wouldn’t be getting tacos at all. Sure, they gave refunds, but I won’t get those 2 hours back and didn’t even get tacos to show for it.
Anyways, this is still 2 stars instead of 1 because outside of this horrific experience, the tacos have been pretty good on past visits. But I wouldn’t recommend attempting this during these times. Even if it wasn’t crowded for the holiday, I’m still worried by the system they had in place for handling orders and people during...
Read moreMy review on Jan 30th 2017 via FB: "I walked in for the first time today.. I didn't buy anything unfortunately. These prices of tacos are to Damn high. Even my server said if he didn't work there he wouldn't come. I expected better than a $4.50(plus tax) to look appetizing. But seeing "the democrat", it looked like normal taco you can get....anywhere."
The positive experience I received from Torchys was their customer service. Thus is why I give it 2 stars At least. They contacted me and sent me money to try out torchy's AGAIN. Which I am very thankful for. I did go back and ordered their food. I still did not enjoy the food.
Follow up post 2/15/17 "So I tried your tacos....thank you for sending me the coupons after a horrible first experience. It's very much appreciated. But unfortunately, your tacos are not "Damn good". The customer service was A1 this time around, but even though the tacos were larger than a normal taco, it just wasn't the best I've ever had. Sorry but I will not be returning to torchy's probably ever again. Thank you for your courtesy."
In my opinion if youre coming to torchy's youre doing it for "the culture". This isnt real Mexican food. Not even close to real Mexican tacos. Not even a real cantina.
I dont recommend Torchy's. You'll over pay and...
