We came in today after searching for a good, authentic Greek spot for a casual late lunch. We figured after researching this spot considering their reviews are pretty decent and the photos seemed to show the restaurant being modern, super clean with fresh looking food that we couldn’t go wrong.
Unfortunately, it was not worth while for us. We did notice in some other reviews, people mention pricing is off and they’re a little pricey for what you get and we couldn’t agree more.
Firstly, I ordered a souvlaki salmon dish and we ordered a souvlaki lamb dish. Both were chosen from their lunch special menu. I also, ordered their chicken lemon soup which is a must in Greek culture. Almost every Greek restaurant has a chicken lemon soup that is usually the same (some better some are just okay) regardless, you almost can’t go wrong with ordering this! It was the worst part about my meal. It came out and as it came out, I noticed and smelled so much dairy of some sort… I was so confused considering this isn’t how it’s made or done (culturally or in the states). It’s a straightforward chicken soup sometimes with rice in it and sometimes not and lots of lemon! It came out as if it was chicken and cheese/dairy loaded soup with zero lemon… so I just left it alone. The waitress came to check on us and asked me if I’m enjoying the soup since she saw it’s not being touched and I just asked her if there’s dairy in it and she said, “umm yeah, I think so” so I told her I didn’t enjoy it and she politely took it back.
The salmon souvlaki came out and the lamb souvlaki as well and both were just okay. Their side potatoes were warm which made me think they were premade or just sitting there and not consistent with the protein… not worth $24-$25 each.
The fact that each dish was $24-$25 for lunch at a restaurant that literally had zero Greek people working there (or cooking), is sort of a joke. You would expect that at a high end or a little nicer, sit down place. And if it’s $24-$25 for lunch, please let it be SO GOOD, so fresh, hot food, with the best quality and service as well. There seemed to be a handful of people working today or at least in the front as soon as you walk in, and most of them were standing around, looking at their phones and I saw a man in the kitchen having a bite as it was an open kitchen so very visible for guests. The service was not terrible for us, but it was not anything special at all.
Out of all that Dallas has to offer and definitely the city part of Dallas, there are too many places to be recommended and gone to instead of this restaurant, sadly. The vibe was just not good, the service was not overwhelmingly great, the food was so basic and simple with high prices for what you...
Read moreI can not highly recommend coming here enough! Extremely impressed and exceeded all expectations! I chose to come to the Preston location--versus the Travis location--because the prices online were cheaper, so I drove the extra distance. I was able to make a reservation same day, right after they opened for one. The inside is clean and nicely decorated. I was greeted once I walked in and taken to a table by the hostess. I noticed that the prices were different than online ($40 pp verses $30), but was told that was for the new years day brunch, which had more items on it, so I was comfortable paying more.
This my first time coming so I did not know eat to expect other than my past brunch experiences (like The Rustic in Dallas). My server Manuel (amazing, attentive server) came to greet me and asked if I wanted a mimosa before leaving. Still, I did not know what I was going to get, but from the tables around me I assumed everything would come out on a platter, but was pleasantly surprised when Manuel told me everything would be coursed out. I was solo dining and was sat next to a two top, and noticed that our portions were not the same. For Example, the village keftedes I only received one, while their table received 4. I asked Manuel is everything is portioned per person, and he said that it was. I appreciate how they did it to limit food waste and maybe they thought that two big men would eat more than one woman, but they did not know that I can eat haha. Manuel even told me that if it was something that I would like more of, he would get it for me, so I would not be left hungry. I was able to take my time and enjoy the meal and the mimosas.
As far as the food, my favorites are: the ziziki bread--sort of like a pita with cheese on them--, the lamb village keftedes, Greek pasta, shrimp saganaki and mini baklavas. My least favorite are the artichoke dip, I would have preferred hummus, and the leg of lamb was a piece of meat that was dry and lacked seasoning, but it was cooked to a great temp. The eggs were okay too, but they tasted like they were made in a big batch and they just gave out spoons of it on each plate, there was no feta in mine. Also the seasonal fruit was an assortment of melons and pineapple, that's just my personal taste and do not like them. I had a few mimosas, Manuel was good on checking on me and keeping them and my water refilled.
You should definitely come here and I will be back to try this location again to compare the regular menu and the Travis location as well. I am already planning on when my next...
Read moreI ate at this place once. I am never coming back here again. Why? When I walked into the restaurant with my group, we waited to be seated. Although the wait time was fine, the table we were guided to was not. There were stains on the table cover, and a hair on top of my fork. Not very appetizing. We had to repeatedly remind our waitress to refill our water and drinks, so I would say that the service isn't the best, but she apologized. Up to here, our lunch was going okay. Not the best, but not the absolute worst either. Then our food came. We ordered four appetizers for our party, but only two came. When we asked our waitress about it, she apologized again and said that she would go give the kitchen our additional orders. We dove in, and I almost choked on my first bite of bread. It was so, so dry. When our main course arrived, one of my friends - who is from Greece - said that the dish was nothing like authentic Greek food. My fish had no taste at all, and there was no salt and pepper at our table, so we had to (once again!) get the attention of a waiter to give us some salt and pepper. At the end of the night, when we got the check, I was surprised to see that we had been charged for four appetizers, as THE OTHER TWO NEVER ARRIVED AT OUR TABLE. Our waitress apologized again and took the two items off. After we left, I returned home. Then, I sat on the toilet for two hours because of my upset stomach - most likely because of the food at Zizikis, as I had merely had my usual oatmeal for breakfast. TL:DR - My friends and I will not be returning because of bad service and bad food. Don't be fooled - the food does not even RESEMBLE Greek good, and we did not enjoy this restaurant. Wouldn't waste my time...
