I have a lot of issues with my visit to this place. It is easier just to list them out.
The location is south of 635 in a high-end neighborhood (near Preston Hollow), but the strip center is mediocre at best.
The lobby was nice and welcoming. The staff is working double duty. Meaning the person working the front is also the person running your game. (Which also means - she is at the front helping you while she is currently running someone else's game)
The awkwardness of ringing this bell is cringe worthy. It's almost like the doorbell should stop, but it doesn't - it just keeps going and going and going.
The room was not set back up prior to us showing up from the previous game they ran. Which means while she is doing the introduction, she is turning on the TV and doing some last-minute "fixes"
There were several items that "do not apply to your game." and we were given a list of, "ignore this & ignore that". Not exactly fun for us. I'm trying to remember all of the list while also trying to crack codes - not cool.
There was a low trust created from the very beginning. I found ourselves questioning almost everything. "Hey, this recorder doesn't have batteries, is it supposed to?" Again, I just didn't trust that it was set up properly from before.
There were lots of holes in the walls and other stuff that you just wish they would have fixed. They really need to hire a handyman to fix all of the little tiny issues. Not hard to fix - just no one there has the skill to do it, so it gets left undone time and time again.
We got into the 2nd room only to find the "vault door" to be unlocked. "Is the vault supposed to be unlocked?" OH, ooops, No, let me lock it.
There was a magnetic switch that we needed to do in a certain order. We did it like 10 times. Forwards, backwards, fast, slow...didn't matter. Eventually she just over rode it.
The camera was down on one side so she couldn't even see us - so when we would ask for a clue, she would have to ask us like 5 questions before she figured out where we were in the game. "Have you done this?" "Have you done this?" "What about this?" Super frustrating.
In other escape rooms there is videos that play before - instead she explained it to us verbally. Since she had done this 200 times before she sped thru it - unfortunately, it was our first time at this place and this game room. "Hope you caught all that." Ahhhhhh no, I didn't. Also don't forget to remember what isn't in play. Uggghhh.
In other escape rooms, there is a button on a wall that you talk to the game host - nope, not here. You were handed a walkie-talkie, and you just hope you don't bump the station. Oh yeah, and every time she used it, it cut out.
In the second room, there are two cabinets that have glass that you can see thru. They are FILLED to the absolute rim with information that you can see. Folders, tickets, labels, just an absolute ton of information - then you find out that both of them are locked. At this point in the game, I had really just given up. I didn't care anymore. I just wanted this to be over. Yes, she did give us an extra 10 mins in the room, which she didn't have to do - but still, my heart was done.
In summary, there are far better places to go for escape rooms that take care of the rooms. They rely on the technology, they TEST things beforehand and even go thru a checklist to make sure things are working. The other places we have escaped from just simply maintained their rooms better.
Find some other place to play and spend your money. This may be the only loss on our record forever becasue although we didn't escape - I don't know that we will go back...
Read moreMy friends and I decided to play the Dig as we were returning customers. Our group had previously played Cartmans room and escaped with only 5 minutes left. My friends and I were extremely excited to return after having so much fun and play some of the other games. I want to mention that our guide was awesome and I have nothing bad to say about it. I was so excited to come back
This time I did not have the same experience as I left the venue feeling angry and extremely upset even though my team escaped with lots of time to spare. 20 minutes and 21 seconds to be exact.
I have done a lot of escape rooms and consider myself to be an enthusiast. I don’t mention this because I don’t want to be treated differently as a customer. The problem I had was not with the game, but with our game guide who introduced himself as the assistant manager.
The room itself seemed to be fun with lots of nerdy references and Easter eggs of sorts. The game master mentioned we may receive a hint if too much time goes by. I wish he would have been more specific with how much time he was going to be waiting until he sent hints. I didn’t expect to be fed clues every few minutes. For example, we received an object by solving a puzzle and a clue came on the screen IMMEDIATELY seconds later telling us where to put it and what to do with the object. This happened fairly early in the game and I was irritated, but thought “ okay that’s odd maybe he is doing this for a reason”. However the trend continued and I was about to find out this would continue the entire game. There was a color related puzzle ( I will not be giving spoilers) in which we were discussing and coming to the conclusion of what to do when literately minutes later there was a clue telling us more specifically what to do. We hadn’t even had time to hash it out amongst ourselves. We were already talking about what we needed to do before being instructed to do so. It happened so much It started to make me furious so much that I noticed I just didn’t care anymore. And I shut down a bit. I even made a few comments about it aloud, but the clues kept coming. One of the clues actually said “time is tight” ( this was the last puzzle) and after the clue disappeared I noticed we still had over 24 minutes left. At the time I didn’t know this was going to be the last puzzle. RIDICULOUS!! We escaped with over 20 minutes left because we were given every single answer without asking for help on our own accord. All in all extremely disappointing.
I go to escape rooms to figure out puzzles not to be hand held and instructed what to do the whole time. What a waste of time and money. I’m extremely upset about this experience and even more annoyed that we were being guided by the Assistant Manager of all people. I can’t remember the guides name. I will ask my friends and If I find out what it is I will update my post so that customers can be aware that they may be given all the answers if they get this guide.
I recommend doing Cartmans escape if you get the chance. After what my friends and I experienced playing the dig I have no desire to play anymore games here sadly. It’s amazing how much your guide can make or break...
Read morei’ve done about 40+ escape rooms all around different states and cities, and i have NEVER had a bad experience with one until now, so bad i’m writing my first ever review
south park is one of my favorite shows so i was super excited to do the cartman escape room but i was super super disappointed. don’t get me wrong it’s a fun room, but multiple things in the room were broken and as i’ve read in other reviews, other rooms are broken as well and clearly they don’t care at all to fix them. i’ll try to explain it without spoiling the room but frankly i don’t care if it’s spoiled because i don’t recommend this specific location at all; 1. after we unlocked something, the answer that it gave us to another lock had to be given to us through the walkie because it was broken 2. you have to do something on an ipad and after you do it, something on the screen is supposed to pop up, it didn’t. after about five minutes of being stuck we asked for a clue and we said we did the ipad but it didn’t do anything and then he had to manually show us the screen. 3. the screen tells you to do a voice activated thing, but even before the screen we knew about the voice activation and tried to do it numerous times and it wasn’t working 4. there’s a magnet thing that opens up the last puzzle that we needed to try numerous times for it to actually open 4. on our last puzzle, we did something and a number was supposed to light up but it didn’t , so we did the walkie talkie and the cluemaster just brushed it off “oh it should’ve lit up” and neither lit it up for us nor told us what would’ve lit up, the light was something that would’ve led us to escape but because it was broken, so we didn’t.
after that, the cluemaster came in and we asked him to show us what would’ve happened on the last puzzle (which most cluemasters do when you don’t escape without asking) and he ignored us and just said “oh you can just keep trying” but we couldn’t figure it out and he just immediately went to setting the room back up so we just left. not only everything that was broken, but the clues are given slowly and poorly too. he had to ask us where we were at in the room to know what clue to give us but they’re supposed to be paying attention to where we are in the room to give us clues, when we would tell him where we were he took forever to say a clue and then didn’t give very good ones most of the time. needless to say, if all of these things weren’t broken and the cluemaster was good at his job, we would’ve escaped. if you want to do the cartman escape room or any escape room for that matter, i recommend going to a different location that has the cartman escape room, not this one. a complete dissapointment and...
