Great Tacos, Lively Atmosphere APR2024 - Updated review We ordered the #11 (see description below), the Portobello Mushroom Taco, and Barbacoa Beef Nachos. The weather was lovely, our order was correct, and all items came out at once.
FEB2024 Ordered the Barbacoa Beef Nachos side as an appetizer, and Grilled Flank Steak, New Chimichurri Steak, and Slow-Roasted Angus Brisket Tacos.
When the name was called only half of the order was ready; the appetizer was still being prepared, and the third taco was missing. The table beside me also had an issue with their food order. 4 stars because in the end they took care of us, and server saved me two additional trips to the counter. It pays to tip even at a counter service restaurant.
The Grilled Flank Steak and Slow-Roasted Angus Brisket Tacos were up first. #11 The Grilled Flank Steak was prepared medium, the Portobello Mushroom was underwhelming, and I did not detect the Mexican Oregano, however, overall it did have a hearty flavor and held together well with the Queso Blanco even on the Corn Tortilla shell. I added hot sauce to this one halfway in.
#12 The Slow-Roasted Brisket Barbacoa style was rich, tender, and juicy. The Red Chile Aioli was not as present as the Avocado Corn Pico, and Micro Cilantro, and the Comté Cheese flour tortilla tasted like a regular tortilla. This taco was best out of the three, but beware it was also the messiest and juice leaked out onto the table twice, and I had to eat over my tray to keep it from landing on my clothes.
Next, came the Barbacoa Beef Nacho appetizer. This had a very similar flavor palette to taco #12, except for the Blue Corn Tortilla Chips, and Lime Crema with Salsa Verde instead of the Guacamole. One could order #12, let it drip and fall all over the nachos and not skip a beat. Large portion size of this side dish makes it the best value!
Lastly, #11.5 Chimichurri Steak Taco is similar to #10 in that they both are traditionally other food styles made into twisted tacos. I'm generally not a fan of rice in my taco, but the Buttered Cilantro Basmati Rice, Pickled Fresnos, and Queso Fresco definitely added an Argentinian flair!
The atmosphere would have been more pleasant if the patio were enclosed, or the exterior door beside the seating was a fire exit during freezing temperatures, so that one could enjoy a meal without sitting in outerwear. I appreciate that this establishment is open later than most, and consequently this Dallas location is...
Read moreCame here for my birthday meal. Tonight was my final day of my two and a half weeks of truck driver training over the road. Stationed at the Irving, TX yard and my mentor asked if I wanted to grab something to eat and he would pay for my meal. I instantly thought of this place as I had seen it when we were passing through Dallas on the way to our terminal and was curious about it with a name like Velvet Taco. I looked up the menu online and just knew I had to give this place a try. I've been pescatarian for 15 years now and I'm a fan of fish tacos or any type of fusion cuisine involving tacos. I tried out the Fish' n ' Chips taco. It was absolutely the best. I even received a free slice of red velvet cake. I'm not that big on red velvet, but that cake was premium grade red velvet. Definitely love the food, atmosphere and I will definitely be back to try more when I'm back in the area. I was also made aware that in my home state of North Carolina, they have an establishment there too. I look forward to going to that one and take my wife to when I get back home from my...
Read moreLove me some Velvet Taco! If you're looking for traditional Mexican tacos, this isn't the spot but if you're open to bold, creative flavor combinations, you're in for a treat.
I’ve been here multiple times, and their unique variety of tacos consistently delivers. My go-to picks are the Buffalo Chicken and the Slow Roasted Angus Brisket. The Angus Brisket taco is wrapped in a cheese-encrusted flour tortilla that takes it to the next level it’s rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The Buffalo Chicken taco has just the right amount of heat, and the blue cheese adds depth without being overpowering.
The MexiCali Shrimp taco is another standout, it’s spicy, flavorful, and super fresh. I typically go with the "Say What" combo, which includes two tacos, chips with dip, and a drink. It’s a solid deal and gives you a full, satisfying meal.
If you're in the mood for something a little different and love bold flavors, I definitely recommend checking Velvet Taco out. Great spot for a casual meal with a...
