The food here was great! My second visit though, the A/C wasn't blowing very well so it was kind of warm inside. There was a notice on the door that says "no public restrooms" but when I spoke to one of the staff, she told me we had to buy something to be able to use the bathroom. I'm not too sure how I felt about that, but it's probably a rule to keep the homeless people out.
The tortillas were overcooked a bit to where some of them were cracking when you folded them but I tried not to be too picky and demanding.
I'd be very careful with their salsas. They were VERY hot. I enjoy spicy foods but not to the point where I can't taste or enjoy the flavor.
I also detected a bit of an attitude from one of the cashier's. But the young ladies who brought our food and took our plates were very nice and courteous.
My third visit though I somehow ended up with the wrong order, which I'm still confused on how it happened. There were only 2 customers, myself and another man who walked in a few minutes after I had made my order and took a seat to wait for it.
I ordered the boat burrito with fries, but I couldn't help but noticed the man who came in later who was also waiting on his order, received his before I did. As he left I happened to look at his bag and inside was a wrapping like that of a burrito...
So I thought to myself that it was strange how he got his order first but I thought maybe because I ordered fries then mine would take a bit longer. And shortly after he left my order came next.
After making my way back home and opening my To-go container, I noticed I had the wrong order. I somehow ended up with what I think was the twisted chips or a Lupe salad. If I had to take a guess I'd say the man who left with what looked like a burrito, took my order by accident and I think I ended up with his.
To me it was still strange, because I figured the man would have noticed that his order was wrapped if he ordered the twisted chips or salad. But I suppose it's my fault as well for, 1. Not receiving my receipt and 2. Not checking my food before I left.
Nevertheless I still ate the meal, it was still delicious. I probably should have taken it back but it was hot outside and I was already exhausted from my afternoon walk. Next time I'll be more careful. Check your orders if you're doing a To-go!
EDIT/Update: So made a mistake. The burrito boat I ordered was actually the correct order. It just doesn't come wrapped in a tortilla like I had expected. So I did actually receive what I wanted. I apologize for my mistake. I will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreit's my day off, and I need a debriefing day after having a challenging week at the hospital with my covid patients. And what better way to debrief than to search out and consume a nice meal. It's lunch time downtown Dallas, Texas, and I feel like some authentic Mexican food today. Something simple though. Of course the person to ask is the maitre d of the hotel. As my luck would have it, he kindly replies referencing the hotels restaurant. Not satisfied with that suggestion, I search out the valet manager. I posed the same question for a Mexican restaurant recommendation. And I scored! ...he recommends an authentic Mexican restaurant and calls up a car rideshare for me to go over to the restaurant.
This is why Google reviews and search is important.
Upon my arrival the signage on the door suggests that the restaurant is closed until 4:00 p.m. it's now noon. With a sense of defeat, I call upon a car service to return to the hotel and enjoy a meal at the hotel restaurant. To my surprise, and because, the rideshare makes a wrong turn, I come across a taco restaurant directly across from the hotel on the opposite side of the block. Has to be fate I'm thinking.. I enter through the tall double glass doors and up to the counter to order. With an opportunity to review "Twisted" Trompo, home of the mother flaming tacos; I place an order for a couple of different types of tacos and the nachos with protein topping. It is a very streamlined approach to ordering food, and the attendant is very helpful in explaining the products so that I can make a wise decision. I place my order, take my number and have a seat at the table. As I review the menu while I'm waiting I see that Twisted Trompo offer individual sides to order a la carte. So I decide to add a side of beans and rice and it was absolutely no problem at all. As a matter of fact, instead of getting the eye roll, the attendant reassured me that the additional side items I ordered would come out with my initial order. Moments later my completed order is brought to my table and my number collected. I exit Twisted Trompo, walk around the corner, back to my hotel room where I discover the wonderful flavors, carefully packaged and delectable bites of a hearty, flavorful Mexican lunch. I Highly recommend if you're looking for street tacos and the likes associated with them, nachos etc., Please LIKE if this helps you and/or FOLLOW so I can...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn a night out in Dallas, we searched for unique places to eat. This place popped up and sounded good.
Basically, I can say everything was incredible. The menu is actually quite open and flexible. It is a build your own taco set up where you choose your tortilla, choose your meat, and then add whatever extras you want. Multiple sauce options are available. Also available are street taco varieties, tortas, quesadillas, and burritos. After this visit, I would love to come back for their breakfast selections.
As an added bonus, they have a full bar with bar seating.
We stuck with build our own, and I can't help but order barbacoa whenever I see it. We sampled six different tacos, each done to our requests. We added the queso, and went for the loaded version (no description).
Weather was nice, so we sat outside, which is a little rare in the heart of downtown.
All I can say is: WOW! This is the best loaded queso I have ever had!
I don't think I can even list all the ingredients. There was so much going on in this queso that it's almost hard to see how they got the queso in there! It starts with base of barbacoa (not just boring ground meat), then guacamole, roasted corn, onion, peppers, tomato, what appears to possibly be minced potato (might be wrong), and even small pineapple chunks (not a guess, and yes this surprisingly works wonderfully)! As you can guess, there was no chance of anyhting left to take home.
The tacos were all wonderful. Pastor can be a little dry, but that's in the traditional preperation standard. The staff was exceedingly friendly to the point that one of them apologized that he didn't get to the door soon enough to open it for me. Unecessary, but nice.
I also paid close attention the the Manager on duty, perhaps GM who was inspecting sections of tables and booths. They were closely examined, booths straightened to be in exact alignment, and cleaned thoroughly. Impressive to me and comforting that there is pride and attention to detail. One unique note, there is a large, very tall wall over the drink machine that was full of a collection of beautiful candles. Considering how high they were, I assumed at first they had fake lighting, but they don't. Pretty cool touch.
This is one of the most pleasant surprises I've had in a while, especially since we just dug on Google Maps to find something. Hopefully this review will help you...
