Check your receipts! Usually love this coffee shop, they have a fun way of incentivizing tips with “Team Mario vs Team Luigi” “Cowboys vs Eagles” so on, baskets that make it easy and cute to tip in cash. Always, when I pay at the window, they hand me the card reader to tap or insert and I get prompted to tip, which I usually decline because I prefer to tip with cash there. Today I ordered a $3.50 bruschetta egg bite, and instead of handing me the reader, the woman took my card inside to process it. When she gave my card back, I asked for a receipt, and she seemed a little frazzled and turned around. Then a guy came to the window and said something out loud like repeating her, “Oh, she doesn’t want to tip anymore? Ok!” which caught me off guard since I hadn’t been prompted to tip at all.
I asked if a tip had been added, and the woman popped from behind him and said she accidentally added a tip, I asked how much and it was $3, which normally no biggie; whatever! However, I did the quick math on a $3.50 order, that’s an 85.7% tip. I can honestly say I’ve never seen that as a tip prompt option. Before I could say anything again the guy now handling the transaction said it was no big deal and that they refunded it, which I appreciate! But honestly, it felt strange because that $3 tip probably had to be entered manually, it’s not like an easy mistake of a 15%-20% to just “tap.”
Mistakes happen, and they fixed it, but I just wanted to share so others can be aware and double-check their receipts here. It’s a great place otherwise, and I hope they tighten up how they handle payments to avoid confusion...
Read moreI have been to this location a few times over the past 2 years and the quick service among other places however a few months ago I came and order Two large atomic bombs and two muffins for $17 and even tipped $1. When o pod at the window I ended up running my card twice as there seemed to be issue with the iPad they were using. Later that day I realized I had been charged twice. I called and spoke with a gentlemen who was able to check their system but said he only showed one charge, because it was pending I advised I would call back. The next day once the second charge officially went through I called back and advised that a manger was not there to view the transactions like last time and that I could email the screenshot of my account to their email and it would be responded to in about 48 hours. So I emailed and a week later had received no response. I called and emailed the following week with no responses and a few weeks later I went there and advised the trouble I had gone through for almost 60 days. I understand it was only $18 and some change but it’s the principle and now with reduced hours and pay during these times it feels just disrespectful. So the guy at the window advised that yet again there was no manager and apologized and gave me my small coffee for free but did not ask for any of my information nor provide any options for resolution. I am very disappointed to...
Read moreEdit: after a year in dallas, i realize that no one knows what good coffee is, everything is overpriced and underwhelming. Stumptown had me spoiled I guess.
I really tried to like this place, its so close to my house and I drive by every morning, but the coffee is terrible. Just go anywhere else. I worked in coffee shops for over 5 years when in college in Portland, I know what espresso should taste like ( I worked at stumptown for 3 of those ). Their regular coffee ( I drink black ) tastes like it was in the roaster for 30 seconds too long combined with the water being too hot and destroying the terpene profile of the coffee beans. I tried to order a mocha since the coffee sucks, and even that was the worst mocha I have ever had. They didn't mix in the chocolate very well, the chocolate was not very sweet, and they don't pay attention to special requests. I shouldn't drink milk as I had my thyroid removed very recently (low iodine diet), and they used normal milk in a mocha when I paid for almond milk. I couldn't even drink my $6 cup of coffee (which cost $4 back home in pdx and is always dank af). So much for a friday...
