It pains me to write this review because I actually like this place and the food. However, I have noticed that the level of service has deteriorated to the point where I am considering never coming here again. During my second to last visit, everything went fine until it came time to pay the bill. The waitress up and disappeared. After waiting more than 15 minutes with the receipt and card in hand, I walked up to the hostess stand and explained I had been waiting more than 15 minutes to pay the bill. It was only then that a manager took care of the bill.
Today, I visited with my wife and 2 young children. The service was not family friendly whatsoever. Happy kids equals happy parents. Management does not seem to understand this. Or does not care. Family friendly restaurants know to take care of the young kids fast. After about 10 minutes of being seated, we had no water or coffee. It wasn’t even offered. We brought this to the hostess’ attention. She was very nice and polite. She hunted down the waiter and explained we had not been tended to. I clearly heard this male waiter with black hair rudely and abrasively tell the hostess “tell those people they’re going to have to wait a second!” I felt bad for the hostess. She then came back to our table and we asked her to take our order since the waiter was rude and nasty. She informed us that she couldn’t take our order as she was just the hostess. At that point, we decided to up and leave as it was apparent we were going to get horrible service.
As I informed the hostess on our way out: we’re locals, not tourists. And, when you can’t treat the locals right, business will suffer.
Update: I went this morning with my family. Someone cracked the whip over there as the service was on point. Our server made sure to take care of the kids first....
Read moreHubs and I have been waiting for Grandpa's to reopen after showing up a few months ago to try the famous pancakes only to find the place closed and under construction. I called (Sunday morning) to see if they were open to hear on the other end that they were, in fact open. We fired up the Bonnevilles and headed to Dania. We found a parking spot for the 2 bikes and headed inside. We put our name in and told it was a 15min wait. The place was bustling with people in the dining area as well as in the bakery. We waited outside and was greeted by a lady who ended up being the owner. She explains that this is the 4th day since they have been open. She was very nice and welcoming. Once seated we placed our order. Biscuits and gravy and huevos rancheros. When the food arrived, we noticed that the kitchen made another offering on the menu, rancheros wrap. Instead of sending it back, we ate it and it was delicious. I was not sold on the potatoes. The biscuits and gravy was tasty. Being that it was day 4 and they were still working out the kinks, I will give them a pass. Confused kitchen/wait staff is not a big deal but waiting painfully longer than tolerable to get our change from our bill was not okay. You would think they would want to turn over the tables more efficiently being how busy they were. The explanation was there was limited computers. The staff was nice and the food was good. The decor is NY Deli and they were playing CCR greatest hits. Will I give it a second visit? We will just have to see. The whole reason why we wanted to go was the pancakes that were featured on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. And our impression from the owner was their bagels will be what they are famous for. If we do, I will be sure to update...
Read moreTook our family there - had 6 of our almost all grown kids (group of 9). They use to give a danish with each meal but now they give a muffin, and we didn’t get anything with our meal because they said they ran out. Asked for extra crispy hash browns. They were chewy on top and undercooked underneath like they were microwaved. Asked for our English muffins to be toasted not ghost bread, and it was not toasted, it was barely warm. Asked for cheddar cheese for 2 of our omelets instead of American cheese, they were made with American cheese. Waiter said he would bring new hash browns, and never did. We were Charged a 20% tip with out our approval, and the food & service was so poor in quality. We spent just barely under $200 for a breakfast that was lower than McDonald’s quality. I guess when the original owner sold - the quality was sold along with it. This use to be an amazing place to eat. We flew in last night and this has become our annual trip for our family. Bummed we wasted our time and money, as well as vacation experience going here. Some of our kids didn’t finish eating, because the meal was not good. They advertise you can buy a dozen eggs with every check. Instead of sending back all the food to have it all remade, we thought buying the eggs and making our own at our place would be better. They said no and walked away saying, “Well, I don’t know what you guys experienced.” And left the counter. They didn’t do anything to make it right. We will never return, and we will let our other family who are all flying in today know that the restaurant is not how it use to be and not to go....
