My 13 year old nephew and I stayed at The Morrison Hotel in Dania Beach, Florida for five nights on our summer trip to Fort Lauderdale. I read plenty of reviews before choosing this hotel, which seemed perfect for what we needed. The hotel is beautiful, close to the airport, close to shopping and restaurants, has a very good shuttle service that runs from 4 am to midnight, has a wonderful and complimentary full breakfast, very well staffed with helpful and friendly people, great housekeeping, has two high speed Internet computers with a printer free of charge and a great pool area.
We really enjoyed this upscale, boutique hotel and its reasonable price tag. We had one minor gripe with the first, very unhelpful shuttle driver taking an hour to pick us up at the airport just before midnight, but the shuttle was great the other three times we used it. Our major problem was the discovery of bed bugs....yes, bed bugs...in our room on the third night of our stay....just gross.
Housekeeping apologized very sincerely as did the lovely Malisha at the front desk. We were immediately moved from Room 501 to Room 425 and given a complimentary wash and dry in the laundry room....and Malisha gave us 4 appetizers since we could not leave for lunch. We overheard the housekeeping staff talking about Room 501 having had prior problems with bed bugs and that the mattresses should have been thrown away.
We were frustrated that we were put into a room that was insufficiently treated for bed bugs and were put at risk for bites, infested clothes, infested shoes and infested luggage. We threw away our shoes and luggage when we got home and washed clothes several times in hot water which means my XL shorts now feel like a Speedo. This is better than risking an infestation in our home. We have heard of plenty of people having to throw away or burn furniture to get rid of bed bugs......we do not want any of that. Fortunately, I think I only had two bites just above the hairline on my neck.....could have been much, much worse. My nephew was not bitten.
The hotel manager did refund one third of our stay which I felt was very low compensation for the experience and the damages. I did contact the hotel by email and asked for further compensation, but the hotel never responded. It sounds like the only room in the hotel that has had a problem with bed bugs is 501......so hopefully it is a controllable issue.
Without the bed bugs, this would be a rave review. The Hotel Morrison gets a lot of things right. I would love to stay at this hotel again if the bed bugs are eliminated. The reviews are excellent and I can see why. The free hotel parking was always available for us and was very convenient. The shower has a strange design.....front glass by the faucet, but no back glass. It was hard for us to take showers without sopping the bath mat and needing an extra towel to clean the water off the floor.
Because of the nearby beaches, it seems that towels are always in short supply. Ask early or very late at the front desk if you need to swap dirty towels for clean towels. Also, a shout out to Junior, the friendliest front desk clerk on the planet. He works the overnight shift and is the definition of customer service.....extremely personable. We loved the breakfast service staff that kept the breakfast well stocked and cleaned the very busy buffet area and took plates from the tables....all with a smile and wishes for a great day. The coffee bar was available 24 hours a day and was also very good.
The reviews about the keys not working reliable are very true. We had to change keys 4 times in three days in Room 501. The keys worked perfectly in Room 425. One remedy we found is that if the key did not work, keep trying it up to 25 times....eventually it would open the door. Of course, several times we had to give up when both keys...
Read moreThe hotel stay was okie but nothing amazing, I wouldn’t say this hotel 100% lives up to the Hilton name but would still give a 3.5 rating. Customer service: was decent but we received better customer service from the male, who I believe was the manager. The young lady not so much. She wasn’t rude but most of the time she didn’t seem aware or know what was going on.
Communication: Check-in was great however they failed to inform us about the change in housekeeping. We utilized the tag on the door to ask for service but the room was never serviced. On a second day, we called after returning to the room again with no service and informed them to which we were told they would send someone. Housekeeping comes only to tell us they can’t service the room because we’re in the room but we weren't told that when we called. We asked for towels, toilet paper, etc and housekeeping didn’t even have it on the cart that they brought…so I’m not sure what they were going to do if we weren’t in the room. However, that person did finally inform us that we had to make a reservation the night before to have the room serviced the next morning. The next morning the room was partially serviced. Smh
There was another incident where there was a spill and we didn’t want to use the white towels to clean so we called for housekeeping and informed them of the situation. They said they were sending someone immediately…immediately never happened. We called the front desk 3 times more after the initial request and my friend went down to the front desk to ask on her way out. In total, we asked for assistance 5 times only to finally have to clean the mess ourselves with the white towels which we wanted to avoid in the first place.
I also want to note that the day we were to check-out, housekeeping or whoever knocked out the door several times. We barely received any housekeeping during our week in town but on checkout day they were present and accounted for. Check-out is at noon, housekeeping knocked on our door at 9am, 10am and 11.45am. I’d like to add that during the 9am knocking that the person was already using their keep to open the door by the time I made it to the door luckily I had the doorstop engaged. Not sure if this was their way of ensuring I checked out on time or a mistake, either way, I’ve never had this happen.
Misc.: the parking and outside area of this property is a bit small so there isn’t anyone outside managing “traffic” but the hotel reception can clearly see cars arriving and departing. There was an incident where a family arrived and we patiently waited for them to do whatever they needed to do. The man was holding the child, the young lady came back out went to the back sit in search of something, then to both sides of the front and finally the truck retrieving nothing, without acknowledging us they both went inside. We waited a few moments and the young lady came back out, thinking she was going to move her car she instead grabbed something from the car and proceeds to flip us off when we asked her to move her car. The receptionist was watching this the entire time and said or did nothing. The man finally came back down and proceeds to curse us out because we saw he had a child in his hand…however the woman didn't. Either way, the receptionist had every opportunity to step in especially since the front is a single lane one-direction area but rather just sat watching.
Things to know: A free shuttle from the airport is available but you have to call upon arrival. Free onsite parking is available but limited but an annex parking garage is provided. The hotel is surrounded by a lot of stores and restaurants. The hotel offers breakfast & happy hour for a fee. Pool...
Read moreI am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with my stay at this hotel. We had to book this hotel last minute, due to an unforeseen cancellation in our flight. We were told that we would have transportation from the airport to the hotel. We got a phone call from the driver, telling us to stand under a white canopy at the airport for pick up. We found an area that had white canopy and after standing there for about 15 minutes realized that this might not be the correct spot so I called the driver again and he kept saying the white canopy. He never told me what kind of car he was in until I asked him so we stayed there again for another 10 minutes and then I asked a staff member at the airport if there was another area for buses, the person directed us across to the other side of the airport to a tarp white canopy where apparently shuttles were. We waited there a little longer and still no bus driver. I called the hotel multiple times, and the man at the front desk kept saying that he was there and that he would be right back. To make the story short, he basically never showed up. When we called the hotel a final time he told us that the driver was already there and left because we weren’t there in time and they don’t know when he would be back or where he was. The Hotel is only seven minutes away from the airport. I saw a multiple shuttles for different hotels pass by multiple times and ours never showed. We had to look for Uber or a taxi and that took even longer because it was spring break and there were no Ubers available. We started waiting for him around 845 and we didn’t get to the hotel until about 10 o’clock. Once we got to the hotel we confront at the front desk person, he argued with us and all he could say to us with that it was OUR fault that and the driver was there, but we weren’t there when he came to pick us up.. I was really disappointed to hear this because we were never given the correct directions or else we would’ve been where we should’ve been but at the end of the day they should’ve came and picked us up and not make us wait the way that we did. We had to pay $20 plus tip for a taxi to take a seven minutes to the hotel. To make this worse the next morning, we had to be at the airport at 6 o’clock. The lady at the front desk at the front desk told us that the shuttle was running late. Included in our rate was breakfast and apparently breakfast started at 6 o’clock. Our shuttle arrived at 5:50 AM. Everything for breakfast was set up, and my mother went to go grab an apple. She asked the lady setting up the breakfast if it was OK if she could take an apple (before actually taking one) to go and the lady YELLED at her and told her no that breakfast starts at 6 o’clock.. my mother again asked just to take one apple to go, and the Lady continued to yell at her. I thought this was extremely unprofessional, considering the fact that it was only 10 minutes to when breakfast open. All she wanted was an apple. We paid a lot of money to stay at this hotel for just a couple of hours and in those couple of hours I was extremely extremely disappointed. I honestly expected better treatment from a Hilton hotel. EXTREMELY...
