This place is a must try if you haven't been there. Just don't expect great food. I've been there quite a few times. It's a gorgeous view, but the management is slacking on the quality of its offerings.
I tried the Mahi bites. They were better a month ago. The fish was mealy and bitter, and the batter tasted like it was fried in a hopper that hadn't been changed in a long time.
I also got the bacon wrapped chicken. No bacon to speak of, and the chicken quality tasted like factory farmed bird that had never seen the light of day. Heavy on the "jerk" chicken, and light on the flavor and pleasant texture. It reminded me of chicken jerky (in a bad way). My wife complained about the "fatty globs."
I also got the Waterfront salad. That was not bad. The fresh mango was delicious and cut into fun little pieces. The presentation was festive. My only complaint was that the spinach was stringy and chewy. Too many stems.
Tried the chocolate desert. The cake in a jar reminded me of an easy bake oven treat from childhood. Cheap cake mix. It was so bad, that I had to try the homemade ice cream desert. That was much better. It tasted like snickerdoodles mixed into cinnamon ice cream. The ice cream itself was allegedly home made. It was pretty good, but not outstanding. No complaints with this one. Would I order it again? No, probably not.
Afterwards, I felt bloated and nauseated. But that was my fault for ordering two deserts even though I only took a few bites of the chocolate one. I tend not to do well with "enriched" wheat flour these days because it is often riddled with RoundUp pesticide. Very few restaurants in South Bama have any idea what we are all up against. It's not their fault, per se, but it's still a problem.
The food chain is becoming more and more tainted every year. Americans had better WTHU if they want to stay healthy. Yes, we are talking about dysgenics by design. If we want to stay healthy in Bama, we need to pay attention. We are good people and we deserve more than the big corps are giving us in our flour and grains and wheat products. Personally, I would gladly pay a few bucks more for food made with high quality GMO-Free (pesticide free) organic flour.
Our server at Waterfront was about as good as they get. Charming, friendly, and upbeat. She helped to make the dining experience enjoyable despite my wife's and my disappointment with the caliber of food offerings. We liked the food better a month ago.
Again, the view is outstanding. Just don't expect a delicious dining experience if you are a foody or a supertaster like me. If you have an average palate and your standards aren't very high, then you will probably love the food. And also the early 2000's truck stop...
Read moreI came during the off-time and was half expecting the service to be slacking and the food to be mediocre, but it wasn't -- on either count!
Although it's a pretty small menu (one page of food and one page of booze) they must really go the extra mile based on the things I sampled because everything was delicious.
Since I wasn't in the mood for a burger I got a couple of apps and the Cuban quesadilla was a real winner! The pork was tender and juicy, the ham umami and salty and the cheese gooey and melty. What really set it off was the combination of vinegar-y pickles inside and a honey mustard dipping sauce that was creamy and rich with just a light tang.
The Crispy Chicken Bacon was also great but was quite small in size, probably only one or two little thighs, but still a good size enough for sharing. The thighs were roasted crisp and served with a jerk sauce that was lightly spicy. A wonderfully creamy ranch was served as a dip that took it to the next level.
I also got to sample a bite of the pimento cheese that goes on the burger and it was excellent as well. It had a great texture - not too lumpy or weirdly smooth - and a lovely subtle cheese tang thanks to being made with a white cheddar.
Service was really excellent as well. Not only was the server's recommendations useful but she never let our drinks go dry.
Of course, the view is also a highlight as the restaurant's name would suggest. The dining room is big, and windows are wall to ceiling so everyone has a good view even if you don't sit outside on the patio.
I'd say the only complaint I could muster is that the Community brand sweet tea wasn't very good, but that's true at every restaurant that serves it. Red Diamond or even Leroy Hill would be an upgrade.
Overall, a great little gem of a place with quality food in a...
Read moreI've been to Waterfront Daphne over 5-6 times in the past year, and unfortunately, my experience has been consistently marked by errors with my order. The latest incident (this past Saturday) was the final straw. I ordered the grilled fish of the day with zucchini for dinner, but it arrived with cold, undercooked rice and broccoli instead. When I brought it to the waiter's attention, 5 minutes after he brought the order, he simply stated, "oh yeah, we ran out" without apologizing or offering a solution. I ate the fish only and left the place quite hungry, just like the previous times. I felt bad for the young teenager waiter to make a bigger fuss, so I paid and we left (we were a party of 5). The other friends had other small issues with their orders as well, but that’s another story.
This isn't the first time I've had issues with my order at the Waterfront. In fact, it's happened at least four out of six times I've visited. I've even warned the staff about my previous experiences and asked them to double-check my order, but it seems like no lessons have been learned.
While the location is stunning, with breathtaking sunsets over the water, the service and attention to detail are severely lacking. The heat can be excruciating during pre-sunset hours, but that's not the biggest issue – it's the lack of accountability and poor order management.
Given the frequency of mistakes and absence of apologies, I've decided not to return to Waterfront in the future. Until they revamp their service and prioritize accuracy with orders, I wouldn't recommend...
