Having been diagnosed with celiac this summer, I was excited that Davenport has an all gluten free bakery! I hesitated writing this review because I donāt want to lose a GF bakery, howeverā¦I was extremely disappointed! Firstā¦$15 for 1 pie crust, just the crust and the tin foil container itās baked in is ridiculous! Then for that pie crust to literally be inedibleā¦ruined our pies for thanksgiving. I even mentioned my concern with it being baked when getting it and he said that would be just fine. Both my pumpkin pie and pecan pie was inedible. Nothing changed with my tried and true recipes that everyone loves EXCEPT the pie crust. We had to take the pie out of the tin foil container and cut with a butcher knife and even that was very difficult to do. There was no eating that. My husband asked if it was made of drywall mud! So if you are looking for a great gluten free crust that is flakey and delicious, Natural Grocers has an amazing crust in their freezer aisle that is deliciousā¦and you get 2 for about $6ā¦not $30!! Now to the breadā¦I tried the dinner rolls and they were mostly falling apart when I opened the bag. I tried a nibble and they were flavorless and very dense. So I cut them up in cubes and used them as stuffing cubes, along with the stuffing cubes I bought from this bakery. I baked them for 25 minutes in a 300 degree oven. Baked like this it was better than eating as a dinner roll. Made into stuffing it was okayā¦nothing exciting. The chocolate mini loaf bread was very dry. The only reason I have given 2 stars instead of 1 is because their snickerdoodle and sugar cookies are delicious! Chewy and fairly soft, these are the only winners in the bakery. Worth the drive for me? No. But dear God, do NOT get the pie crust!! Everyone said it was the worst pie crust they had ever hadā¦because you couldnāt eat it. To everyone at Life Breads Bakery, I really want to support you and am happy you have a GF bakery but please please PLEASE try new recipes for your bread and pie crust. Sadly I will not recommend or be back until, if ever, that happens. You all are so kind and very nice and the bakery smells amazing when walking in, but the quality just isnāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEdit: since I couldnāt respond to your reply. We ordered a smaller birthday cake that came out to $65 for our little girls 6 year old birthday. Come to pick it up and are greeted by who I assume is one of the owners, has no idea what Iām talking about. He filled out an order form for us just 3 days prior, charged us a rush fee and we paid for it when ordered. Order was completely forgotten with a super upset 6 year old that didnāt have a cake on her birthday. I was offered cupcakes for a dollar off regular price since they had forgotten to make our cake, which I reluctantly accepted since we didn't have anything else at this point. $30 later i had some cupcakes that looked like they were frosted by a 10 year old. And to top it off he was wearing the same jeans when we ordered and attempted to pick up the cake that had large holes on the back of both legs that almost showed his butt. We were super excited about a gluten free bakery in town since we've been gluten free for about 4 years but we will never set foot in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe first time I had their āHappy Accidentā bread, I was ecstatic - it tasted just like homemade bread! I returned and purchased more items - lemon pound cake, a snickerdoodle cookie, and another loaf of bread. I was so excited about the bread that I immediately tried it when I got to the car - not only did it taste disgusting, but the entire loaf literally disintegrated when I attempted to break off a piece. The pound cake was gross, too. The inconsistency and poor quality is nowhere near worth the price, regardless of safety. I am SEVERELY disappointed and will never go there again. Purchase items at...
