The Original New York Bagels — Restaurant in Davidson

Actual New Yorker here. Breaking it down piece by piece.

The Kaiser rolls are more bready here, and you really lose that outter shell crunch when you bite in. I absolutely think you need to have your roll TOASTED with an egg sandwich... also, I understand down here ketchup is an odd thing to put on an egg sandwich, but its a must for me and helps cut the "bread-iness" out of the "kaiser" roll. I asked for it on both sides.

The eggs are really good, hard to mess that up tho. But good, not brown and overcooked, fluffy.

Bacon crispy and good. I end up having to order double bacon to make it feel more like a New York egg sandwich. Sausage patty very good, tasted like a jimmy dean or something, but sausage patty is a good add on to thicken up a sandwich and add some "breakfast spice".

Cheese... they do not cheap out, which is good. Any sandwich that has "some" cheese, is always better with "more" cheese. A+ to who ever calculated the cheese:sandwich ratio.

Overall, the food is very good. Cooked fresh in front of you, nothing old or reheated, and it Tasted fresh.

What puts this place OVER THE TOP is the guys working there. They gave ideas, answered all my questions, and made this Very Picky and specific sandwich EXACTLY as I wanted it. They are the reason for the fifth star, and it was because they cared so much that they got my sandwich so close to what I wanted.

Recommendation- 2 eggs, double bacon, sausage, cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup on both sides on a lightly toasted kaiser roll. (Maybe get them to call this sandwich...

First off let me say i lived right down the street from a awesome bagel shop in NY for many years and by that standard this place is about a 7 out of 10. but i've been in NC 7 months now and this place is by far the best Charlotte area bagel shop ive found. other places even go as far as to microwave their eggs, bacon sausage, etc (ewwwww, yuck). there are 2 things i would suggest working on, 1st would be the chewiness of the bagels needs enhancement, (kind of like thomas's from supermarket) and the second thing is the sausage patties taste really strange, but maybe that's just locality. Overall i think these guys in all 3 locations have it on lock, convienient hours, polite staff that snap to attention when you walk in the door, and clean , not run down stores, if slightly...

Updated - July 2025. As of July 2025 Health Scores have stayed in high 90's. They have improved and appear to have settled into a better crew running the Davidson location. The food is always good. I'll stick around so long as the health scores remain where they should.

June 2023 Post - Health scores have continuously been in the low to mid 80s. As of June 2023, the Original NY Bagel has the #3 lowest health Score in all of Mecklenburg County (score of 84). Since 2022 they have stayed in the low 80’s for health scores with several key safety violations around food prep, food temperatures and no soap in kitchen.
