Made reservations here 2 months in advance as part of a planned comedy show. While I did expect a traditional sushi style restaurant, the rest of the visit was not expected.
Our server, Yonder, was great and friendly, absolutely nothing was any fault of his own. He happily explained all my questions about the menu etc, suggestions, and also drinks. I do want to add, the menu doesn't explain anything, so ask the servers. There was a charcoal grill section that said "2pcs" which means 2 pieces. In a sushi place that typically means you're getting 2 pieces of sushi, turned out you're getting 2 kebab skewers, and more than just 2 pieces of sushi to eat.
Let me first start by stating that the plates are underwhelming in size, and I did expect a bit more. If you're looking to enjoy sushi, you may need to order several plates from here, or find somewhere else to enjoy.
I arrived about 20 minutes prior to reservation and they had offered a high top if we wanted to be seated now, it wasn't comfortable and I asked if we waited for my reservation could I have a booth. I was informed booths have to be requested. I replied to the hostess seating us that they should mention that when making reservations and not after fact. Tip for management: have the hostess inform people if they'd like to request a booth, I would have said yes had I been asking when placing my reservation in person.
I started with the Mikan drink, I requested they change the tequila they use to one of my preference. It tasted nice and I did enjoy that. Everything after that went downhill a bit. Loud music started coming in and I could barely hear my wife to the point we were almost shouting. Was this a restaurant or a club?
For the food we started with the crispy rice, it was more crunchy than crispy and was burnt on the bottom, wife did not like it. We then got the seared salmon sashimi, the sad part was that they were practically the size of sugar cubes. I expected a bigger piece of sashimi like from other sushi places I go to.
We weren't starting to feel or enjoy the atmosphere. We ordered a California roll (the smallest size I've ever seen) and a spider crab roll, also a paltry size.
I ate most of the food as my wife was not liking it. I had to take her elsewhere to get her some food.
Now for the part that will never make me go back to Kuro...
I ate and drank nothing else for the rest of the evening, after a couple hours I was not feeling well. When we eventually got home, I ended up throwing up all the food I ate, which leads me to wonder how fresh or clean the fish they served me actually was.

Read moreI would give ten stars if it was possible. We wanted to try something different than the typical steakhouse. This was the perfect choice. An absolutely stunning restaurant with extra welcoming staff. The cocktails are listed as 5 of the 6 different Japanese tastes- sweet, sour, salty, umami and bitter. We started with a sweet and also a sour. Both were delicious but we both preferred the sour if asked to choose. You’ll have the option to order à la carte where your order will arrive separately at various times or Omakase style. Omakase is a Japanese phrase, used when ordering food in restaurants, that means 'I'll leave it up to you' (from Japanese 'to entrust'). We chose à la carte and ordered: Edamame- Sea Salt $7: this seemed to be boiled versus steamed but I preferred. Tuna Crispy Rice- wakame seaweed, togarashi chili, tosazu jelly $20: a crunchy bottom with a smooth tuna top. Pork Belly Skewers- duroc pork, tomoto-yuzu jam 2PC $12: cooked perfectly and nice balance with the jam. Japanese Wagyu Beef $25/PER OUNCE- HOT STONE ISHIYAKI (3 ounce minimum) 6 ounces $150: this was a fun experience where you place each piece of meat on the hot stone for just a few seconds to sear it with provided sesame oil. Then also included other sauces and salts. There’s even some grilled vegetables and pickled cucumbers. Mix and match until your heart desires. Beef Short Rib Entree- gochujong demi, shallot, red pepper $45: the absolute best short rib with a dark and salt au jus. Also a creamy sauce with some small shallot slices and red pepper slices. Ribeye Miso Entree- pinenut miso, grilled vegetables, shiso dressing $66: the most tender ribeye you’ll ever have. The flavors are just perfectly balanced and everything just melts together in every bite. O toro sashimi $15: I’ve tried just standard toro and enjoyed it but wanted to try these even fattier cuts. Chu toro sashimi $11: in the end I prefer right in the middle with the Chu toro cut. We ordered two desserts to go: the doughnuts- anko ganache, peanut butter, matcha anglaise $10 and the matcha milk chocolate cake- mascarpone sabayon, candied pine nut, white peach sorbet $13. Doughnuts are a safe and delicious option for anyone but the matcha cake is light, creamy and fantastic as a adventurous diner. This was absolutely amazing and we will have to be back again. Thank you Janae for providing us excellent service and helping us through all the options. You were delightful and made this an...
Read moreI walked in to this beautiful establishment I heard great things about. I definitely had high expectations regarding Kuro. Working in the restaurant industry my entire life, I am very knowledgeable with industry standards and expectations. I sat at my table at least 10 minutes before being greeted by my server. My server, Chutimo, seemed like she was unhappy just to be working on Christmas. We ordered our drinks, without any suggestions made by her. She asked, if I liked anything besides water to drink. After she returned with our drinks, she proceeded to ask if we were ready to order. No suggestions of appetizers were made or asked if we like to try something before our meal. I stated that we like to start with few apps to share. We ended up placing our app orders quickly.
The food runner who brought out our appetizers was extremely helpful in ansering all my questions regarding the menu. Our server was no where to be found to answer or explain any of the menu items, as I was unclear about many of the items. After our food runner made suggestions on menu items, I proceeded to place the order from our not so friendly server. Food came out, and she breezed by to see that we received our items. I ordered the grilled octopus and was extremely disappointed as it was overcooked and hard to chew. I had to flag down the food runner to return octopus dish.
The server finally returned to ask if we wanted dessert. We declined and decided to go elsewhere for dessert as this experience was definitely below par. She dropped the check off, and once again I had to flag her down to inform her that the octopus was returned an needed to be removed from the check. She was obviously unaware of this and so was the manager. I am well aware that anytime a dish is returned to the kitchen, the manager pays a visit to the table. We paid and quickly left as we were going elsewhere for dessert.
On the way out, I stopped to speak with a manager and mentioned how disappointed I was with this experience. He apologized and handed me his business card. After a paying $340 for dinner, I expected a little more than a business card and a ingenuine apology. Manager did and server did not care about the reputation of this company and it was very evident. Horrible fine...
