Be sure to check your bill before paying.

Food is solid, but service is undertrained and/or uninterested.

We ordered a two-taco plate and separately six tacos (4 al pastor, 1 fish, 1 shrimp) and a horchata. The cashier ran us up for a grand total of $65, lol.

I pointed out this wasn't correct.

"Yeah, it is." "No, it isn't." "The shrimp and fish tacos are more." "Yeah but the subtotal should be more like $50 not $65." "...uh... let me... check... uh... that's so weird it's doing something with the tacos... and charging the up charge for all six... uh.... Sorry about that."

Lo and behold the subtotal ended up being $49 and change.

Casually asking for 30% more on a bill and not catching your mistake a few times is truly an accomplishment. Take a bow, guys.

Though he seemed somewhat apologetic I wondered how often this could have popped up if the cashier was initially convinced he was correct, denying the overcharge twice. The hilarious point for me was the mistake wasn't just $5 per taco ($3.50 plus 1.50 for shrimp/fish), but seemed to be $6.50 times six.

To boot the pricing here is absurd for a small town and not in line with their food truck pricing (I'm well aware of the cost of doing business business but $5 for a taco is a bit much). Charging SF prices in Davis is wild.

The service as a whole seemed a bit all over the place. Nevermind the guy seemed smug about the whole thing, but we ordered our food.. we were handed a number for a table.. and our food came out in plastic bags and boxes. Get it together guys.

Edit: nice of the restaurant to try to address the concern here. Unfortunately you’re on the wrong page, our order was for dine in… which is why your cashier handed us a numbered sign to bring to our table. He then packaged the order in a bag and boxes. My wife asked me if we could still eat there. I said out loud “yes of course, we ordered it for here”. Your cashier heard me and said “the utensils...

Another Davis restaurant turning into garbage! I have eaten here before with my daughter and it was decent. Not great or good. But the other day we ordered Maya via Uber and it was disgusting.

My chile relleno was cold and salty. Like the sauce was old and had been evaporated. Salty. Cold rubbery cheese. Greasy rellano. Horrible. My daughter's carne asada was paper thin. Like you could right through the meat and there was 5 pieces. For 18 bucks I think its fair to expect more than 4 oz of cheap low grade beef.

I ordered dessert for my daughter and I. Flan and tres leches. Flan was 86ed. They called from the restaurant and asked if I wanted a sub or to cancel. I asked what else they had. So I ordered churros sub. Tres leches was a BS white cake mix cake. So terrible. Thtown into a box with a sticky sweet condensed milk. Wasn't even dilated properly withwoth the other milks. Maybe half. Churro was an unimaginative frozen churro haphazardly cut into random sized pieces and thrown into a box. To add further insult to injury, it was not even coated with cinnamon and sugar properly. My daughter and I agreed the entire meal was a waste of money and calories. Trash. We've lived in Davis for over 4 years for college. Will never go back to Maya and will tell everyone we know this place is trash. Thanks for wasting $60.

Side of corn was the only good food in that bag!!! Hahahha so pathetic. Its not that...

They messed up my burrito, their veggie burrito isn’t vegetarian, paid 6$ for a piece of tres leches cake that smelled funny tasted awful and was really really small, it also had chocolate and there’s someone in my household who has a serious allergy to it which made me frustrated because taking it home could make them very sick. they put avacado on top of my fiancé’s food as a garnish and no warning on the menu which could have been really bad for someone with an allergy, my burrito had an orange slice garnish without warning as well. the music was so loud that i couldn’t hear the cashier, the cashier also picked food up off the ground with her bare hands, didn’t wash them and went to packaging food with no gloves. we ordered a vanilla concha and then 15 minutes later after we had gotten all the rest of our food they told us they had no vanilla so once again we got...

Update: have been back several times and tried new items each time. Always delicious and really love the food presentation. Staff is always so nice and helpful! First time visiting. Atmosphere was nice. Can’t miss the place as they painted the exterior a very bright pink. I give them an A+ for plate presentation. They have different types of plates rather than standard white plates. They arrange the food beautifully. To me plate arrangement is important. Food quality was amazing. I had a chile relleno burrito and it was like none I had experienced before. They have a chips and salsa bar and amazingly I loved all of the salsas. I love that it is a family owned restaurant and conveniently located in downtown davis. Walking distance to farmers market and local coffee shops. I highly recommend Maya’s. Give it a try when look for authentic Mexican food with flair!

Fun spot with an overwhelmingly large menu. We will be back to try some other items. Taco Maya was interesting, but the asada meat wasn’t all that flavorful ( but very tender). Huge taco, too big to pick up so I used a knife and fork. The cactus was tasty. I’ll probably try something else next time. Quesabirria taco had great flavor, was a bit greasy. The cup of consume that came with it was really good too ( not too salty). The crispy taco with Al Pastor was the tastiest, but a bit drippy. All in all, we enjoyed it very much and will be back to try some of the other dishes. Service was very friendly. Seating is a bit limited but we had no problem getting a seat for dinner. Counter service. Music was playing but they also had a big tv going so it was a bit noisy and jumbled. This spot is a really nice break from the more “standard” Mexican food spots in town.
