My family and I came to My Burma after church for Father’s Day lunch. When we walked in just before 12pm, there were no customers, so were greeted and seated right away. Our server promptly came over with the menus, take our drink orders and greeted me, “Happy Father’s Day”. Soon after our order was taken, the restaurant got busier and busier. They have a decent of amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. They were prepared and was staffed well. There was no hiccups in service and our food came out quickly.
Food (5 stars): Tea Leaf Salad: had lots of textures between the crunch of the salad, seeds, peanuts, crunchy garlic, etc. The fermented tea leaf dressing was delicious with a little saltiness, oils and maybe a hint of vinegar. Mango Chicken: nice mango flavor with strips of mango. Sesame Beef: good flavors, not overly salty or sweet like at other restaurants. Burmese Eggplant Curry: thick and saucy, light curry flavor that is not overpowering, think cuts of eggplant, tasty over rice Burmese Style Pad Thai: we got it with tofu, you can choose with chicken (+$1) or shrimp (+$2). Very similar to flavors to traditional Pad Thai at a Thai restaurant, maybe slightly drier.
Service (5+ stars): I need to give our server (Heaven W.) props for excellent service! Not only did she come around frequently (even as the restaurant got busy) to check on us, she asked to refill our waters without us asking and even made an attempt for some small talk such as asking if were from Davis or out of town and asking what we were planning on doing after our meal. She did a great job serving all the other tables both inside and outside. It’s been a while since I’ve encountered this level of service. Thank you Heaven W. for the “heavenly” service! If the owners are reading this review, she is a keeper! All the employees looked like they enjoy working there and working with each other.
We will definitely return for more of their delicious food and hopefully more...
Read moreBurma Eat is seriously great. The food is of excellent quality and there really isn't anything like it in town. I'm so glad that Davis has a restaurant like this because it is a complete breath of fresh air to the food scene here.
Burma Eat is serves up Burmese food (obviously). If you're wondering what kind of dishes and flavors there are here, think a fusion of Thai, Indian, and other Asian tastes. The food is infused with a good amount of spice and flavor to really tantalize your taste buds.
Many of the dishes have some spicy heat to them. One of my favorite items is the mint chicken. With a name like that you might think it has a minty fresh taste. Well... not really. The jalapeños.. in the dish really shine and give it a kick. It's not over the top hot, but the sizzle is there. I personally love it and get this dish any time I can.
If you're looking for something lighter, there are a variety of salad options to try. The salads are also unique here. You're not going to find your traditional Cobb or Caesar. The salads are particularly good on hot Davis days when you can eat at their shaded patio.
The menu has a ton of optionss and I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy when you visit. From noodle dishes to items that go great with rice (like the tender eggplant I had for lunch), there are many things choose from.
Burma Eat is a little pricier than your traditional college town food. It took over the old Mikonos location before they moved a few store fronts down. The pricing is similar. It's well worth it for the quality and unique tastes that...
Read moreBurmese food finally in Davis, I'm amazed! If you've never had Burmese food before I would describe it as similar to Thai food but with more elements of Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese cooking scattered in certain dishes. This spot is located in the plaza where Mikuni was before they moved.
Tried a few dishes so far and the flavors are unique and quite bold.
Fried Chicken: A+ Super crispy, lots of meat on the bone. The spicy lemon fish sauce they serve with this is a flavor bomb! This is a must get appetizer!!
Burmese Mixed Vegetable Curry: B+ Pretty good flavor for the curry and I like the variety of vegetables you get. I like the use of okra, carrot, and cabbage that gives it the whole spectrum of textures. Definitely would be better if I had ordered rice with this.
Burmese Style Pad Thai: B- This is a solid Pad Thai but I definitely preferred the other dishes I ordered. I thought it was more on the sweet side than sour. I like that they split the cabbage and peanuts in the takeout container. Also the texture of the noodles and tofu are firm so they hold up well.
Overall, the flavors are on point and I'd highly recommend Burma Eat to experience some different flavor combinations you may not have had before. Service was super fast, ordering online was convenient, and there is lots of parking. Only downside I'd say is it's on the pricier side for small to average portions. Definitely will be back to try some other dishes like the tea leaf salad and...
