Do not waste your time, money, or tastebuds eating here. I can not stress this enough. This was about as far from a "Mexican restaurant" as it could get. Taco Bell is more Mexican than this place. The food was... edible? First, the salsa would have been better if they had gotten the generic junk from GFS. The chips were extremely stale. Second, the cheese sticks were burnt on the outside and cold in the middle; obviously, the oil was too high. Third, (and in comparison I know this was minor) the food was plopped down on the table as the servere wisked by without stopping but had time to stand aound the register and shoot the breeze with coworkers. Fourth, we ordered chicken tacos that came with the tiniest scrap of barely distinguishable shredded chicken per taco, a pile of shredded lettuce, and a sprinkle of cheese. In fact, we thought they forgot the chicken on all 6 tacos (3 per person) we ordered until we dug to the bottom of the lettuce and found a tidbit per taco. Fifth, they then charged us extra for the "fajita chicken" (which we did not order) but it didn't matter if we had because there wasn't enough to tell if it came out fajita chicken or not. Sixth, the margaritas/drinks were okay, at best, nothing to talk about unless it was included in the story of how horrible this place was and certainly not worth $10 a glass. The bathrooms were disgusting and horribly laid out. In the men's, if you don't watch out, you might get your backside smacked with the door if you are standing at the urinal. And the woman's... why would you attach the toilet roll holder to the stall door when there are at least two other, more obvious locations on walls? Service was extremely slow, the food coming out was extremely slow, there were people there but it certainly was not crowded. Do not go here. The only person you should recommend this place to is the ex that you have a deep hatred for because they got the house and you still have to pay alimony to them after they cheated on you with your...
Read moreThis is the first time I've eaten here in about 10 years and I was really disappointed. They have discontinued serving some of my favorites. No more tamales - which I can almost understand since they take a long time to cook and might not be that popular. But the one that really surprised me is that they've discontinued green sauce. I couldn't believe it; I've never heard of a Mexican restaurant without green sauce, even the smallest of places have it. Since this is the time of Covid, even though they now have a dine-in option, we did carryout. I called several times but didn't get anyone to answer the phone (I should've taken that as a sign but I really wanted good Mexican) so we stopped by the restaurant to order. The poor overwhelmed bartender apparently takes the carryout orders, along with tending to customers sitting at the bar and making drinks for the whole restaurant (no wonder she didn't answer the phone, which went unanswered several times while I was there waiting to place my order). Once I finally got to place my order I went outside to wait for it to be ready. The best part is that they send a text when your order is ready. Once at home, we dug into the bag. Our first disappointment: No chips, no salsa. Granted I did not specifically ask for it but it comes unlimited at the restaurant if you dine in and other places include some with orders so I just assumed it would. Our entrees were mediocre at best, definitely not as good as I remember and absolutely not worth the price! It was over $35 before tip for 2 people to eat. At least I can say from this experience that now I know not to bother eating at Elsa's again. Overall an expensive,...
Read moreI have been going to the Linden Ave Elsa's for 26 years. This place has gone down the drain. Left tonight extremely disappointed and it was my last attempt at a good time there. My meal was so bad I sent it back. I had never done that before. The manager came to the table to ask me about my problem. I explained it and told him that the meat was so dried up and clumped that I could not chew it. He told me he wou,d check the meat and stated that some of it must be dried up. (?) He then Told me that he would take my meal off the bill (the one I had 2 bites out of). He also told me he recognized me from all the 100's of times I had been there. He said let him Know the NEXT time I came in and he'd take care of me? Let me say that we also ordered 3 pretzels that never came and the waiters never checked on us without us waiving her down. I do not write reviews. I do not complain. I am sad that tonight was my last night at Elsa's. Each night I have been there over the past several months has been increasingly worse with tonight the end. I am afraid that this place has reach the end of the road. I suggest that you make any other selection if you want to have an...
