First time here and highly recommended as well. Strangely enough, the couple who recommended this place to us were here finishing up their dinner just as we entered. We were seated only two tables away. Now to the actual restaurant itself. Jimmie's is a quaint place in it's setting (old fire house) across from a hospital. The atmosphere is excellent, the staff very friendly, and the pricing appropriate for the portions. With that said, you may find a little something for everyone, from excellent salads to really tasty sandwiches. There is obviously more, but this trip, we opted for the half sandwich and salad combo with an additional side (I should mention that dinner proper is not available until after 5pm). I had a half sandwich with salad and onion rings as the added side, and my better half had a half sandwich and salad with fries as the side. For starters, the salad was just the right size, which is something I don't normally say about salads. With Jimmie's salad, you get just the right amount of everything to feel good but not overwhelmed. The sandwich was the same - just rightly proportioned to add to the good feeling. The onion rings were great, very tasty without having the large amounts of grease that make lesser rings inedible. These are great without anything at all, but of course a little ketchup doesn't hurt either 🙂. The fries were much the same except they were a bit in the saturated side and could have used a bit more crisping. Otherwise, the flavour was great and, again, good as they are as well as with ketchup. The service was, again, very friendly and helpful with the selections as well for we first timers. The atmosphere is very friendly as well and certainly has a lot of character. The only complaint that I would have is the parking, which is interesting, to say the least. However, it also can't be helped as the street is literally at the front and there is no other way to have created parking. A tip, though, do not park at the laundromat next door...... They will tow. All in all, this is a great place to dine and perhaps stay awhile and the good news is it won't break the budget. Actual dinners are not served until after five, but as described seemed as if one may very well feed two in volume. Perhaps next time. Until then, we would both highly recommend this place to...
Read moreWhere do I begin? From the moment you walk into this historical fire house that used to have horse led fire wagons years ago, you realize that this family run business has paid attention to every detail in their amazing design! It is just so cool there in every way! They even have the coolest event space just off of the parking lot called Jimmie’s Greenhouse that you can reserve for private events! This is a historical house resurrected with a hip New Orleans vibe while honoring the past with a heavenly garden that they locally source herbs and vegetables from for their extensive menu! The food is amazing and made from scratch from their chef son Jason who graduated from culinary school . I recently had lobster bisque on new years eve it was better than anywhere I have ever been! The menu is huge with local favorites and amazing specials and I haven’t had a bite that I didn’t love, ever. Their other son Nick runs the front of the house and is so sweet and accommodating to his guests and has assembled a fantastic staff to take care of their customers. Both of these young men’s parents are the owners and they are passionate about the quality of the food and taking care of their customers and community as if you were their family. If you love music check out the night scene. The talented bands they bring in are so great that you can’t believe you are in Dayton. Jimmie’s Ladder 11 is located right across the street from Miami valley hospital and just down the street from the University of Dayton. Ample parking makes this place super easy to go to versus some of the downtown restaurants that have limited parking. Enjoy! I...
Read moreYikes. Where do I begin? $102 bill for two. For that price you expect great service and to be happy/satisfied. Absolutely not. Service was painfully slow. Waited forever for a server, drinks and food. Appetizer was the Creole Cheesecake with pita. The dip portion was good, but the pitas were so over fried, we could barely bite through them. I ordered salmon; blackened. It had zero flavor. My sides were soup of the day and a garden salad. Soup was chicken veggie. It did not have one single piece of chicken in it. Salad was solid, but you can’t really mess up greens and veggies. My partner had Surf & Turf with fries and garden salad. Steak was ordered medium. It was burnt. I mean really, really burnt. First time I’ve ever seen him leave a portion of steak behind. The shrimp was flavorless, chewy and not even slightly garlic flavored. Again, salad was fine and he said the fries were decent. We also ordered a couple cocktails each. Those were rather tasty, so high five to the bartender. We dine out a lot and we are both big foodies. Normally, we always take home any leftovers. Not this time. Sad to see food go to waste. Very unfortunate that the Chili’s we had the night before was 100% better, for nearly the same price. A chain restaurant outdoing a small business is very rare. Such a disappointment. We most likely will never be back. Thanks, but no thanks. Agave & Rye is where we should have spent our $100. They never disappoint and are always consistent....
