MidDay + Good Impressions — Restaurant in Dayton

After meeting the Chef at Costco my sweetheart chose this place for breakfast. The Chef was very nice and it's very important that we support locally, OUR PEOPLE. Well sad to mention the tall black young lady that worked the front counter....a Barista I suppose, was not welcoming nor friendly in the least to US. However we noticed that the three caucasian customers that came in after us were treated with much enthusiasm and cheer, they were even gifted discount cards towards their next visit ! I didn't want to write this review but after a family member who is a well known Chef himself out of Atlanta experienced the same unpleasantries I felt I should. We suggested this Midday eatery without mentioning the young lady due to the fact the food was delicious the environment is really nice and cozy and maybe just perhaps she was having a rough day. However that was the first thing he spoke on....how mean and nasty she was and that he'd never go back because of how she treated him ! To this young lady , not ALL your people carry themselves in a negative manner. A lot of us are hard working productive citizens of the community and we also tip well. We deserve the same nice hospitality and treatment that I noticed you didn't hesitate to extend to your caucasian customers. We'll be back again, support is very important. We were so excited yesterday to see another coffee shop had moved into the old Midtown Ghostlight and we came for a much-needed coffee date this morning. 10/10!

The food came out before the drinks, so I knew we were in for something special. I had the Plane Jane avocado toast, which was beautifully done, and candied orange spice mocha—tasted like a chocolate bar in a cup, while also not being overly sweet? Perfection. My husband enjoyed the chicken sandwich and an iced green tea latte with sesame cold foam, which was unlike anything we’ve had other places.

The service was also fantastic. Kara took our orders and brought us water tableside after we had our food. The two other staff members who brought our food and drink were great too. The facility is clean and well-arranged, well-kept bathrooms, and everyone is polite and professional.

If you like Ghostlight, Press, Pettibone…you need to...

5 stars overall cause I really want this place to succeed. Staff was super friendly, attentive, quick. Black coffee and iced latte were both great. Definitely a solid lighter roast from a quality roaster.

The Wright sandwich was tasty, liked the brioche bun and the slightly spicy sauce.

If I can give one piece of constructive criticism, we felt like the “Parmesan fries” were a bit of a let down. Rather than fresh cooked French fries, they were dehydrated potato sticks with some seasoning. At $12 for a breakfast sandwich and fries they really should be actual French fries.

If it were real cooked potatoes (fries, hash browns, home fries etc) or some kinda hearty side salad, I think the value would be there. Or if the price were lower and just a sandwich that would feel worth it.
