This was my first experience at any Smashburger restaurant. We visited the one on/next to the University of Dayton’s campus. Before I go on, I do want to say that I understand that this is a fast food restaurant. I don’t expect the service and atmosphere to be that of a five star restaurant. However, I was really disappointed. After ordering my food, I went to the restroom, which had what appeared to be soy sauce splattered on the ground, right in front of the door on the inside of the bathroom. I went and told the worker at the register and he shrugged his shoulders and put his hands in the air and said “the ceiling is leaking”, and sure enough when I went back and looked up at the ceiling, it had deep brown colored liquid collected around the ceiling tile. The leak is out of the worker’s control, but the cleanup wasn’t, which he didn’t bother to offer. As we waited for our food, there were several interactions between the workers themselves that really declined the overall feel of the place. As soon as the worker took our order, he got on his phone. Then we noticed another worker using foul language and flipping off what seemed to be one of the cooks in the back. This was all front and center of right behind the register. When we got our food, the taste of the food was great. Juicy burger, good flavor on the smash tots. However, my burger had way too much mayo slathered on, and found a puddle of grease at the bottom of my smash tots. Of course I know they are fried in oil, but it just looked like no one took the few seconds to drain it off. Don’t get me wrong, I still ate it, because it tasted great, it just wasn’t appealing to see, that’s all. Overall, I know this experience (hopefully) doesn’t represent all Smashburger restaurants, but it was a disappointing one for my first ever...
Read moreI've only eaten Smashburger once before, at the Miller Ln. location. I tried Brown Street because I was craving a good burger and it was close to home. I was promptly greeted and waited on. I was immediately informed that there would be a 25 minute wait. I was ok with that and placed my order. The guy running the register was friendly and efficient. As I waited, I had the unfortunate experience of listening to some very loud banter between some of the workers complete with profanity including the F word and N word. It went on for quite some time. I'm comfortable with casual environments but this was just unprofessional. I also understand there are differences of opinion when it comes to the use of profanity and vulgarities. However, there were ladies and families with young children in the restaurant; that behavior seemed inappropriate to me. On top of that, I get home to find that the quality of my food was sub par to say the least. A dry, over cooked burger, wilted lettuce, tiny, pale tomato slices and a small piece of jerky disguised as bacon were haphazardly thrown onto a bun. Greasy, soggy fries topped it all off. I believe the overall experience could be enhanced if they were more focused on providing quality food service and spent less time clowning around. Needless to say, I was disappointed and probably won't return to...
