Monday is the burger special, and we really wanted to get one, but sadly, we made the mistake of showing up at 6:48 tonight, and was greeted at the door by a lady who didnt even say Hi, just "nothing but hot dogs!". We really wanted a burger, and the place was over half full, so we really werent gonna be holding anyone up , but said "ok, we will have some hot dogs" and sat down. A cpl minutes later, the "Nothing But Hot Dogs Lady" came over and said the "cooks said" we could only get food to go. Now mind you, there was still plenty of people that hadnt gotten their food yet, it STILL wasnt 7pm (their advertised closing time) , and like I said, there was still a good crowd in there. I said "you're kidding me " and the lady said "Its been a long day here, busiest Monday in a while, maybe next time you shouldnt come in 10 minutes before we close" to which i quickly replied "Yeah? Well, maybe you guys should put closed at 6:50pm on your sign." I live less than a mile from Rileys and was pretty excited about going in again, but man, its been a while since I've seen a customer get pooped on like that, much less BEEN that customer. Needless to say after that exchange, we split and gave our 60 dollars in business to La Cantina but as we walked out the door, and here is the kicker....we saw a table of four get their HAMBURGERS ... smh, pretty bogus way to treat your locals or any customer, really. I cant tell ya the last time I put someone on blast like this, because I'm in the business myself, and I hate this stuff, but the owners at Rileys should know that their hostess and cook not only cost them money and future business tonight, but if they dont wanna serve until 7pm, they should really...
Read moreI can't believe we've lived in Daytona a few years and never tried this place. Passed it a few times, and probably judged the book by its cover, (its bright yellow, and small), but on a recent bike ride decided to stop in and try the coneys (hot dogs/chili). I was so pleasantly surprised, have now been back multiple times within a few weeks and have taken visiting guests. Simply, this is a great restaurant with exceptionally fair prices, and has an old school beach charm serving a variety of food - coneys, burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, and an EXCELLENT fried haddock fish and chips. I'm a big fan of coneys from the Cincinnati area (Skyline, Empress, Gold Star- which is more cinnamon/curry/wet) so had not heard of FLINT or DETROIT style (think dry and wet respectively) chili on top of hot dogs. They are tasty and along with fries is a great meal. I've also been working my way down the menu having the sausage/peppers coney - great! Last week our large group took advantage of the Friday discounted fish/chips meal and ALL loved it. It's now a regular stop on any of my bike outings when traveling up/down Daytona...
Read moreOn seeing several recent favorable reviews, I tried them out today. I'm a sucker for fried Whole Belly Clams! They had them! A half pound for $29.95, and included a slice of cheesecake. I decided to treat myself. Not my day I guess. One thing I wasn't fond of was the breading. I know that's subjective, but it took away the taste of the clams. I was upset that half the order did not include the bellies attached. The remainder were the torn off strips. At $29.95, I would expect the whole clam with the order. I have to say the owners and staff were very nice and helpful. I had not realized they were the same Port Orange business that once occupied the Famous Philly US 1 location. I'll come back because my friends had other entree's and loved them. They also have great daily specials and comfort food selections. I'm told their meat loaf is a best seller! They offer Veterans a discount of 15%. That's a very generous offer and is greatly...
