The Canteen at Midtown — Restaurant in Dearborn

Excellent restaurant selection, especially for shawarma and boba/coffee.

When I first tried this location out, there was free parking, plenty of it, and it was free to enter. So despite not having great seating or bathrooms, it was sufficient enough.

Unfortunately, this visit was different. The parking lot had oranges cones at the entrance, for staff only. So you're left to park at the nearby spots, without prior permission. It was fine for us, but I'm unsure if the other locations would tow or not.

There is also a $5 charge to enter. I'd assume that this charge would cover services, right? The services were lacking.

There was a tent outside for the tables to cover from rain, and the building had something like 6 tables. A total of say 12-16 tables? That's not enough when you have 9-10 restaurants. Barely 2 tables per restaurant? Is this a joke?

Furthermore, none of the restaurants would allow you to purchase with a credit card unless you order via the app. Okay, fine, I'll do that. I did, and I'd assumed that I'd get a notification, be updated, there is some convince. It's nothing but inconvenient. There are 0 updates, or worse late updates.

Menus also mention ordering from a table and they'd deliver it to you. We found a table, and the bar code was taped out.

The bathrooms were clean though, so I guess you're getting something for the charge, but it's entirely misleading.

So if you're coming here for the food, great. If you're coming here to sit and...

Alhamdoulillah for this kind of place to bring Halal food in one spot. However, there are some negative aspect to this place because of the individual businesses:

Qawah Coffee - Amazing ...great coffee and honeycomb. Amazing service.

The custard company: Deplorable service. My son paid for a smash cookie sandwich and he receive only the ice cream because they ran out of cookies. No refund and no excuse.

The chicken coupe - not like advertised on Instagram. I asked for the chicken coupe sandwiches and I got a small thing. I specified to the boy exactly what I wanted but failed to deliver...poor service

The bistro box - failed to get customer as they cook everything together shrimp and all. If you have allergies to shellfish you cannot eat there.

Sami Shawarma - average taste - more on the oily side.

The munch box - Also make their food on the same grill and if you have allergies to shellfish you cannot have the food and they didnt mention if they would accomodate.

The Fratelli Pizza - great service and great food. Highly recommend the pepperoni and Margarita pizza. Alhamdoulillah.

Nami Sushi - Alhamdoulillah they said they would accomodate someone with allergies to shellfish. They offered to clean the area and alhamdoulillah no allergic reaction. Highly recommended. The spicy tuna cucumber was exquisite.

Z bubble tea - great taste but should offer to customize your drink. Regular sugar is way too sweet....

Saw this place online and was in the area so we decided to check it out…we were quickly disappointed. Service was confusing and slow. Prices were outrageous compared to the tasteless food received. Most trucks and places were not open despite looking online and mentioning they were open - especially for a Saturday. If I didn’t know any better I’d think this was a “tourist trap scam.” We ended up grabbing something from a truck The Munchie Box and while the menu made zero sense , we put in an order then was told that certain menu didn’t start until 7pm that evening. There was no signs displaying this. They had a display of 10 drinks to only telling us there was only about 5 available. Went to pay card and was told cash only - yet when I was sitting there watching people order after and only certain people were allowed to pay card. (Ummm, okay…?) Got our food after about 20 mins and I would have had KFC over this. No salt, no pepper, nothing. Fries were tasteless. Not worth what they are promoting online.
