Smelled great ,taste great but experience and customer service was horrible for me and my family. We went there on our first time visit to Dekalb because we were taking two of my grandchildren to college NIU .And after all the moving in ,shopping and stressful tiredness we needed to eat before heading back to our various homes in Chicago I'll, Thornton I'll and Woodlawn in Chicago. I would say it was about adults and 3 minors . The aroma of the good is what drew us in as we were driving by that area. As we drove in and proceeded to enter property I asked a young lady walking past us if had eaten there before she said yes and the food was hood she then told us we could eat inside or outside and we could seat ourselves. Not!!! As we walked in the area outside because it was a very warm day we wanted to eat outside. Us not knowing that we weren't welcomed as we thought we were. We attempted to seat ourselves but was told by an angry you waitress that we couldn't set there, not offered a seating table we walked to another place but was told by another another person that we couldn't sit in that area either. I told another look at what the diners looked like and all but two where white. So I told my family lets ho I don't think they want us here, my granddaughter said why??. We we looked at strange and then approached by the same angry male person server waiter, not sure of his position but said to us you can't seat in and do you have a reservation?? I said no sir we didn't know we needed one he replied yes you do and walked away . As we prepared to leave a nice couple that watched the situation was nice without saying a word. Another young lady approached us and said she help us and take our order, I apologized for not knowing we needed a reservation ,she said yeah we usually do take walks because its move in day for the college and we replied that's why we're here because we just moved in two new students. I openly asked her if we were welcomed at that business and she first asked what I meant and I repeated myself . My family and I were just trying to get a hood meal after a very long day before we left our young adults in a new place . I needed to know if we (black people) were welcomed. She apologized for the insensitive of the other's and told us she was willing to take our order and serve us... And she alone did just that no other service was offered to us ,she had no second set of hands yo help her.We sat over 45 minutes before any thing was brought to us, even water took 20 minutes, thank God I had some in my car. We needed an extra chair the couple next to us gave us one of theirs. They were so kind, we needed extra menu's had to ask twice. We talked about just leaving 3 times but the students were hungry and tired so we stayed. And our server waitress finally came with the most amazing smelling looking and afterwards tasting food. She was great and we appreciated her ti.e effort and service despite the lack of communication and acknowledgement from the 2 other staffers. This was ultimately taken to our hearts and minds as to how we are (Black people) still treated in places. We talked to our yound students in a blessed prayerful respectfully way at thst place at that table at that moment to assure then ,not you worry God's got you...
Read moreAtmosphere was great outdoors. Inside was cramped and squished feeling so we went back outdoors for seating. We were a group of 5 but even if it was just me or just me and one other the inside would still feel compressed and none of us are claustrophobic but it felt like the tables were too close and like the walls were closing in on us for the little time we spent inside. It took a server almost 15 minutes to finally come to the table, the signage said seat yourself, and ask if we would like drinks. We had to appropriate menus from an empty table too. The server walked away even though there was a person whose drink order hadn't been taken yet. Once food orders were made we were back to being ignored by staff. People at our table had to walk up to the bar for drink refills as the server wasn't doing it. We also had to walk up to the bar to ask for silverware after the food was delivered as it wasn't all finger food that was ordered. We even waited a bit to see if the server was coming with silverware but they didn't. The food was okay... The coleslaw was more saucy than it should be it was borderline cabbage soup. Two of us ordered the Polish Reuben. They came out unimpressive, picture attached. Reuben traditionally has the meat more folded/crumpled up not just slices of meat stacked together. If you know you know. Someone else ordered the Durango because it read like a decent burger but it was way to heavy on spicy, not spicy, it was just off and boring. When it came to paying for our meal the server hovered over the device like they just had to know what they were going to get for the tip. This was extremely uncomfortable. I've been a server before. That is the worst thing in the world you can do if you want any sort of decent tip. I don't know. Maybe the rules changed since I was a server and you're supposed to stand right there over the person while they write in the numbers. That's just as creepy to me though. If, and that's a big if at this point, we ever come back to this establishment. It's probably going to be a takeout order for something stupid like that behavior wise from the service. The food was not that impressive though so I don't know if we would ever...
Read moreStopped in while in Dekalb on a scorching hot Sunday afternoon after visiting Camping World and Corn Fest. Interesting place. They have an outdoor patio and feature live music. It was too hot for me but there were people sitting out there and there is plenty of shade. I went inside to a very cool looking interior. I sat at a table near a bar and was greeted almost immediately. My waitress took my drink order while I looked over the menu. She was very attentive thruout my time here always checking in on me. I ordered a double 1/3 # each patty burger. It came out hot and fresh. My only issue with it was the cook went heavy on the salt. If you go there and order a burger ask for no salt or easy salt and then add salt to your taste at the table. Fries were freshly cooked. They are the thick fries. I ordered them without seasoning. They also have a fried potato salad which I did not care for. The coleslaw was a mayo slaw and it was cold and good. I didn't see vinegar slaw which is what I prefer but since this was my first time there I wanted to try it. The diet Coke or Pepsi was delicious and my server kept my glass refilled as she did with my water. Fairly good number of people for a late Sunday afternoon (5 pm). I expected alot of college kids but there really wasn't yet. School was just moving in and I don't think classes had started. The guy from Camping World recommended it as he said he likes to stop there after work. I definitely give this place a thumbs up and look forward to...
