My wife, son, and I went to Crossroads for the first time last night after hearing for a while how nice the experience was when my in-laws had gone. I was pleasantly surprised all around. From the moment you walk in the door until you walk out the atmosphere is reminiscent of home dinning. When you walk in you are greeted immediately by a warm face and pleasant attitude of who I can only assume is the patriarch of the family owned business. Being seated promptly, given both coloring materials and a small imaginative toy to keep the little one occupied once again added to the homey atmosphere. The lower lighting and large tables gave a feeling of sitting at the holiday table at a family gathering. Within only moments we were greeted by our server who was immediately to the entire family including greeting my son directly. She took our drink order and returned with them without delay. Being the first time at this establishment, the menu was almost overwhelming with the amount of home cooked style goodness. One of the most notable things being the kids menu that included three times the amount of options than most restaurants, all with cute names like "Pascetie" and the like. The adult menu included everything from appetizers such as onion rings and yummy loaded cheese fries, to hearty Prime Rib and baked potato on the specials menu. While it took a while to choose between all of the items available on the menu, there was most definitely something for everyone! So lets get to it, we ordered the loaded cheese fries to start with which by default is served on an oval dinner plate loaded with fries, shredded cheese blend, crunchy real pork crumbled bacon, and a side of house dipping sauce that is reminiscent of a creamy ranch and chili mixture that pairs wonderfully with the smoky bacon, cheese and fries. We were also served a side of regular ranch dressing for my son as well "Just in case" our waitress announced when she brought the wonderfully smelling plate to our table. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed this start to our meal. Next up, I was served a piping hot bowl of Chicken and Dumplings as the soup added to my meal. This bowl of creamy and very hearty soup was large enough to share with the entire family and was most certainly enjoyed by all. VERY TASTY for sure, and brought back memories of Grandma's cooking for my wife. Shortly there after we were served our main course, which for my wife was a Turkey Ruben on marble rye with homemade slaw and thousand island dressing. This HUGE sandwich had 3/4 inch slices of beautiful marble rye bread that in itself looked incredibly delicious. The coleslaw looked to be a nice white and red cabbage mix with sweet creamy sauce. The turkey was in a thick layer of slices and accompanied by tangy thousand island dressing. This sandwich was far more than my wife could eat as it was quite large for the price, as was everything we were served. For my final course, I chose their French Dip roast beef sandwich. Just as my wifes sandwich, it was quite large for the price. The roast beef was fresh and cooked to perfection for such a dish. On top of the roast beef was a layer of melted white cheese that I believe to be provolone cheese. Also accompanying the roast beef and melted cheese were caramelized onions that were sweet, semi soft with a little bite. Altogether they made for a very nice sandwich, but this was not all of course as this is a French Dip after all. On the side was a cup of something you rarely find when ordering this at most restaurants, REAL beef Au Jus. This was no powdered packet Au Jus you find served in most restaurants. This was a dark savory beef Au Jus that matched with the sandwich made for a most delicious meal.
All in all, I have to say that this was a small hometown feel in surprising location just around the corner. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food so much that we will be returning for another visit in the very near future.
Well done Crossroads! You have gained a new food-vangelist...
Read moreWe go to Crossroads a lot for a quiet relaxing dinner after our hectic work week often but this time was the worst experience. I ordered onion soup and so did my fiancé. We ordered two drinks. One soup came out the other one was never served as per the lady at the front desk said “it just didn’t look right.” She said the new one would come RIGHT OUT. Well it did not. We ordered our dinners and did not expect the second soup would accompany the breakfast for dinner that he chose. Then the server who was named something like Scout I think, brought the second soup along with my fiancés order which happened to be breakfast for dinner! What a creative pallet experience it would have made! Yummm French toast topped off with a taste of onion soup!!! So he had received a second soup which was a sunken glop of cheese or something that looked like that. Wow. Very appetizing to say the least! Then we turned back the soup since it was this odd looking floating glob of something. It was brought to our table at the same time as his dinner so if he could even finish the so called onion soup, his breakfast for dinner would be cold! Bad timing on the Scouts part and also the cook! So next came the chicken dinner! The mashed potatoes were grey glop tasted like old potato water with nothing in it! I gagged when I tasted it like paste from the bottom of the pot. There was no butter or milk in it as we were told just straight up potato water gelatinous blob. My fiancé tasted it too and he said don’t eat that stuff it’s not eatable. The Mac and cheese was horrible too. Like some dollar store cheap cheese stuff also uneatable. The waitress was rude and was throwing ignorant looks at us from behind the front desk area and was very clip with us. “Make sure you leave the bill and payment at the end of the table”! Hey we are not infirmed people, we know good service and good food since we dine out every single week!! We are both professional people who work hard and look forward to our weekends including dining out at area restaurants! We heard lousy things from family members about Crossroads but had decent meals there ever since today. The lady in charge was very nice and tried to make it right but the Scout person was very rude to say the least. We will not be going back for a while a will try the new diner down the street now. You must have a new cook in the kitchen and who is pretty poor. Your server was just as bad. We should have went to the Mexican place we always frequent and we were tossing up where to go. We never had a bad experience there. Sorry Crossroads but now we agree with our family that your place is terrible and has...
Read moreI have been coming here for well over a decade atleast once a month if not more. 90% of the time I go, I get breakfast. It’s typically great. I love to support small businesses and I feel like crossroads is such a cornerstone community small busines
The last 2 times I went there and got lunch/dinner food the experience was not so great.
Ordered a French onion soup a couple months back and it had pieces of a sponge, the size of a quarter. It looked like the bread in the soup until I went to eat it and spit it out.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt being they’re a small local business and I’m a pretty forgiving guy.
I’ve gone back for breakfast several times since with no issues.
Today my girlfriend happened to order a French onion. She Eats half before passing it to me to finish off. I love a good French onion, but was skeptical from previous experience so I poked around and took a look. There had to be 100 hairs a millimeter long. As if someone shaved over the soup. I’ve never seen something like it. It had to be intentional (not towards me but in the sense how does that much hair end up in food). If it was a hair or 2 I get it accidents happen, as gross as it may be. But this much? Wow!
At first they come out and say the chef says it’s part of the aju but when I asked that we look at it together again if that’s the case, they politely declined.
Management was so generous that they said they’d take off the soup from the bill, and we could have a piece of pie for free. We declined any further food, the bill comes, and they forgot to even take off the soup LOL.
Beyond disappointed and frankly, at-least a little bit, disgusted.
I give 2 stars because I’ve had so many good experiences there but these 2 experiences were enough to cancel them out for me. Servers are always nice and do well for me. But I’m a bit beyond myself with these French onion...
