Excellent buffet and excellent food!! After my favorite Indian restaurant closed (Palace of Asia which used to be right up the street from this place) I've been looking for a new Indian restaurant/buffet. I have tried Maharaja which is also on the Kirkwood Hwy but I didn't like it. This place, Godavari, however did not disappoint me. I was there this past weekend on Aug 18 Saturday, and the food was amazing. Selection was excellent. They even had crabs (half soft-crabs). They had lamb curry which was yummy. I've tried almost everything and they all tasted great. You know the feeling you sometimes get when you go to Indian buffets that everything kind of tastes the same, NO NOT HERE. Each dish had a distinctive flavor. I am not crazy about the vegetable dishes but even the vegetable dishes were so good. I also don't normally visit the dessert table but they had sweet lassi drink there in a fountain - amazing. They had chai which was also amazing. I cannot remember how many cups of sweet lassi and chai I had, probably more than I should have. I also tasted a dessert but I cannot remember the name. It was also very good. They had 3 different kind of rice stations. Overall, I highly recommend this place. It is currently $2 more expensive than Maharaja but $2 difference is totally worth it. The buffet on Saturday was $13.99, I think this a fair priced. Very nice place for...
Read moreGodavari claims to be the "best south indian restaurant in delaware" on their website. However good their food might have been, no restaurant can claim to be the best if they dont have any customer service.
We were driving from D.C. to NJ and Godavari was on the way. The website said it closed at 10p.m. so we called ahead at 9pm just to ensure that their kitchen is open. The person who answered was rude and out-right refused to seat us since we were arriving 25 mins before closing time (our ETA to reach there was 9.35pm). He said that the kitchen closes at 9.30pm, we cannot eat there, but if we want we can place an order and pickup. We consulted the menu online and called back to place an order for pickup at 9:20pm. The same person answered the phone and said that the kitchen has already closed! We reminded him that he had said it closes at 9:30pm earlier, but he wasn't one to listen.
Never have I seen a restaurant that relies on customers for their business, turn down people so rudely without even a "sorry for the inconvenience". If they wanted to close early, they should update their business hours on the website, or at least they could have said so when we called - that way we could've found other places to eat in the meanwhile.
0 stars if it was possible - since we did not even get to...
Read moreI wish to vote 0.5 for the taste and quality of the food being served over weekdays at this restaurant.
We went along with a group of 11 members and ordered different items as you know everyone will have their preferred choices. Items ordered in a simple list: 2 Dhum Biryani 2 Mutton Biryani 2 Chicken 555 3 Naan 2 Mutton Curries 1 MLA Pesarattu
Chicken 555: added more spicy with taste not satisfying Naan: Good Taste Dhum Biryani & Mutton Biryani: Tasted as if the Biryani was prepared about 2 days ago. We have no other option except to have it due to the time we were there with hunger Mutton Curry: Enough bones to bite them and hell of gravy Pesarattu: Worst of kind ever tasted in life. No Salt and taste. When asked, response from hotel is every chef has his kind of cooking. Remember Pesarattu is from Andhra Pradesh, India and it lost its credibility by having a chef like the one in Godavari Delaware and also ruined the evening meal.
Oh, btw... they replaced Pesarattu with Ravva Dosa once again horrible and no one could dare enough to bite again after first tasting bite.
I heard very great about from people in and around about this restaurant, but seems like they just got adjusted with the quality and taste they are offering to customers.
Never Again to...
