I was in town and randomly decided to visit a few pawn stores after getting out of a meeting early. This was my 4th store out of 5 visited. Just like any pawn store, there is always one or 2 employees who are āso-soā on pricing specifics (clerks) and the one employee, manager, or even owner (leader) who is the one the others look to confirm or name a price to an existing item that is usually annoying when someone says a possible price and the other raises it lol. But in any case there were two people working here and as I walked the store I could tell from their dealings with other customers who was the clerk and who was the leader. So I approached the clerk and asked questions and he was very respectful and seemed warm and a pleasure to talk to about what they were selling. He even brought out other items that were not on the floor for view. When he brought those items out, the leader who went out of store with a customer immediately came in and jumped in on the conversation, lol. Whenever the good stuff comes out the leaders always drop what theyāre doing and come take over from the clerks essentially lol. Anyway, his prices were not outrageous, but a bit more than eBay prices given condition and completeness level. People buying old items of that age are usually collectors like myself and condition is usually the key. When we reached somewhat agreement on one item, I had intended to buy all games with a nominal negotiation on prices, but something regarding Delaware rules on selling merchandise and not taking them home that day (which I am sure is valid) along with how they priced items exactly as eBay (final value fee, shipping, and listing fees, and 30-day eBay guarantee be darned lol), along with his somewhat very very light passive aggressive demeanor just made me feel uncomfortable. I was ready to possibly buy them all with the clerk, but something about how the owner expressed himself made me uncomfortable, especially his stance on not sharing his eBay page. Now granted the guy was not yelling or rude, actually he talked very calmly to me. But I have worked in retail for over a decade from 2004-2014 and my idea of customer service is at a whole upper echelon and I my standards are just different when it comes to the way a salesman creates a vibe with a customer. Granted this is a pawn store and I believe he was the owner. But when the leader said, āif I put it online it will sell in less then a week,ā just rubbed me the wrong way when he repeated that line and yet would not provide his eBay page for reasons which I took in and understood to a certain degree as a rationale, but why not let me see if them item sells in a week and watch the item on your eBay and if it inevitably drops or no one buys it, I can make an offer exclusively āon eBayā and keep the transaction exclusively on eBay. I guess other customers have ruined that option by calling him up and not keeping eBay separate from his store, but I certainly would love to be exclusive on eBay as I find it easier to deal with sellers that way for the long game. Otherwise, if you love tools this store might have more tools than Home Depot and Lowes, lol. They did seem somewhat reasonable in other prices from what I paid attention to in the store. But I am not sure a second visit is in order. I would however love to shop their eBay store if they ever reveal...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to both locations (Newark and Wilmington) just to test what each would say. I had a tv, Wii, 3ft stereo, laptop, mini fridge, and Coach bag that had been sitting in my garage since my last deployment. The Newark location had nice employees but didnāt offer much yet explained the process very well to me. Now this location (Wilmington) was interesting. They had me out in under 2 minutes and offered me $10 for each item. They didnāt really take the time to actually look at anything. They also refused my electronics due to not having a receipt which if this is an actual Delaware law then I understand. Looking at the other reviews Iām sure they donāt care but from me to future customers, take your business elsewhere. As soon as I walked in they had already determined they would not buy from me. Maybe they figured they needed the money more than I do which Iād have to agree. I have no doubt it was about the way I look. Their smiles faded as soon as I walked inš¤£.
I enjoyed the fake niceness however and the āohhh I can only do sighs and shrugs $10 Iām so sorryāšš Yall are funny. Iāll give yāall an extra star...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve sold to this shop many times and every time Iām there this one employee (who is always there, wish I knew his name for the sake of this review) is so unbearably insolent. He is incredibly rude and impolite to everyone, I have even witnessed him belittling and disrespecting his fellow employees completely needlessly and in front of customers. Itās clear to see his coworkers find him difficult to be around, I donāt know how they can possibly deal with his impertinence and disdainful demeanor. It seems this individual enjoys making others feel stupid and beneath him. He has absolutely no sense of customer service and his behavior makes it obvious that he couldnāt care less if you return to do business again. I really donāt like going there and doing business with him but itās the closest pawn shop to me by far.
You may want to take bad reviews more seriously as most credible and successful businesses do. At some point another comparable pawn shop will open on Kirkwood and people like me who donāt appreciate your immature disregard for customer service/appreciation will take their...
