Warning: Beware of HJ O'Connor's Pub in Delray Beach
I've had multiple issues with overcharged credit card transactions at HJ O'Connor's Pub (210 NE 2nd St), and I feel compelled to share my experiences to warn others.
During my first visit, I noticed a duplicate charge on my credit card app shortly after being charged at the pub. When I brought it to the bartender's attention, the owner, Heather Johansen, approached me aggressively, accusing me of canceling the transaction from my smartphone, which is impossible. Despite chalking it up to her being intoxicated, it left a sour taste.
On another occasion, after paying my tab, I noticed a discrepancy between the final pending amount on my credit card app and the total charge with tip. When questioned, the bartender admitted to the mistake and offered a round of drinks to make amends.
The worst incident occurred when my fiancé paid the tab, was told it was declined so I paid with my card, but we later discovered a pending charge significantly higher than the amount owed on my fiancé's card. Despite the bartender claiming to have reversed the charge, it remained on the statement days later. Heather Johansen's promises to investigate and rectify the situation proved to be empty, as we were met with lies and misinformation.
Despite providing evidence and recording conversations, the pub failed to take responsibility or initiate the necessary actions to correct the error. It's evident that HJ O'Connor's Pub cannot be trusted with your financial information, and I urge others to steer clear to avoid falling victim to attempted...
Read moreRude bartenders- took over 10 minutes (Saturday 4/16/22 around 11p) patiently sitting at the bar before I was able to get "muscle man" to acknowledge me. I asked what bourbon/ whiskeys they had - after told they didn't have Woodford, Angels Envy or Gentlemen Jack. He pointed to the wall and said that's it and walked away. Finally got his attention again and explained I couldn't see what was next to the Dewars with a cork stopper he said "I don't know" I asked if he would read the bottle and he said "no I don't have time to read you every thing we have" and walked away. I finally got the attention of the other bartender and asked if maybe he would help me -again asked which whiskey was next to the Dewars and he said "I don't have time to read you every one we have" and walked away. I guess when your "busy enough" you don't have to care about service.
As a business owner I would want to know what was going on in my establishment- once season finishes you may want to know your locals (as a Florida native of 50 years I for one plan to share my experience with many friends and colleagues! From the reviews, I'm not the only one that has experienced the rudeness from these two (maybe more). As an aside went to another establishment and was treated with respect & smiles left a $25 gratuity...
