Very disappointed. This place is usually very solid and I've never had an issue with the quality of food until today. The service from the staff is always good and the owner is always very nice. So it saddens me that I have to leave this review.
Ordered the orange chicken with vegetable lo mein, egg drop soup, and rangoons for my daughter and I. The orange chicken tasted like the cheap frozen pre-made stuff you would find at Walmart. Unlike the large juicy chunks of chicken breast that I usually get, they were hard round balls with the texture and consistency of the processed Great Value variety you would find at Walmart. The egg drop soup tasted like water. No salt. No flavor at all. Probably the worst egg drop soup I've ever had. The lo mein was okay. Just noodles with very little vegetables.
I'm actually very shocked by how terrible the food was. Not sure what happened. Maybe the costs of preparing quality food has become too high. But it's obvious that they have started cutting corners. This was my go to Chinese restaurant. Like I stated before, I've never had an issue with the quality of the food until now. I really hope that they read this review and make some changes, or they'll lose more business...
Read moreCrouching Dragon is a family Chinese restaurant nestled in shopping mall right next to Bass Pro Shop. It looks very unassuming and unappealing from the outside. The saying : "Never judge a book by its cover" couldn't be more true for this spot. Their food is excellent! All the classics are very good: chow-mein, fried rice. But they also offer some local Asian specialties like maifun noodles which are traditionally a Malaysian dish. Thin rice noodles tossed with turmeric and spices and sliced pork , shrimp and chicken. The portion is huge and equally delicious! The owner and matriarch is very friendly and will always receive you with a smile. She remembers your name and if you ask extra chopstick or their secret spicy sauce. On school nights you can see their kids helping with chores around the restaurant: learning how to work the wok, mop, sweep and...
Read moreThe worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. The people giving this place five stars are doing so because they have so few Chinese restaurants to compare it to in Livingston Parish, compared to Baton Rouge or especially NOLA. I get that flavor is different from person to person. But you can tell when something is cooked well or not. The secret to great fried rice (and why people.can't make it at home as good) is super high heat that you can only get from the right type of gas stove. The rice here tastes like it was cooked on a regular electric range. All of our food was barely even average. Everything inside looks sad and dated. We won't ever...
