My husband and I stopped in here late Saturday night because the decor was so interesting. I was hoping for authentic Mexican cuisine, but it was more tex-mex style and the flavors were definitely toned down and catered to a white palate. The food is tasty, don't get me wrong, we enjoyed every bite, but if you're looking for spice or those heavy Mexican flavors, I did not find it here. We got the queso appetizer, which was great. The complimentary chips and salsa were hot and tasty, the salsa wasn't overly onion-y, which is a problem alot of tex-mex places have. My husband got the Tacos Al Carbon which were seasoned and very delicious. I got the Taco Salad, which was good, but very plain. The beef was very bland, but was mixed with the queso, which helped, and then topped with lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes. Thankfully, my husband had gotten pico de gallo as a side dish with his entree and I was able to use it to add flavor to my Salad. He also got charro beans and Mexican rice. He said the rice was more like fried rice, which while tasty, wasn't what he expected; and the charro beans were more like the pinto beans from cracker barrel, which again is a flavor profile he likes, but wasn't what he was expecting here.
The service was excellent, this definitely seems to be a small family run place. The restaurant was very clean and well lit, and the decor was so interesting and unique. I really enjoyed looking at all the imagery and colors. There is also no shortage of booths, and a separate bar area.
In conclusion the food is good, but definitely not what is expected when one goes to a Mexican Restaurant. I would suggest trying it out for yourself. This is definitely a place you could bring someone who doesn't like Mexican Food, because the flavor is...
Read moreWife and I were out shopping Denham Springs are thought we’d give this Mexican grill a try after going to Sam’s. Saw it had decent reviews. Giving it our input. Upon entry, the first thing my wife said was it gave her a Disney World vibe. Reminded her of one of our favorite restaurants at Epcot. Atmosphere was spot on. Pleasant, relaxing, lighting, no overly potent odors from the kitchen. Staff very polite and pleasant. Even witnessed a couple step in and asked for some fresh water to be added to their tumbler. Even though it was apparent they were just passing by. Food was fast, fresh, hot, and plentiful. Silverware and cups were clean and free of spots. I like that there were plenty of napkins and sweeteners at the table when other locations make you ask for it and then only deliver a few of each. Was reasonably priced. About $17 each. Even delivered the bill with a couple of mints which just shows the small attention to detail this location gives. Only had a couple of disappointments/opportunities during this experience. The salsa was a little watered down. One of the tacos appeared to be a little undercooked. We ordered simple taco, rice and bean plates. After all, if you can’t get this right then why try anything more? Think we will be returning to give the fajitas a try. We recommend giving this location a try if you are in the area and looking for...
Read moreI have been going to El Rancho since I moved to Denham Springs back in 2008 and I frequent there once a week or twice a month til I moved away in July 2023 (and I cried too! lol). This place is consistently delicious and they have THE BEST chicken fajitas, enchiladas, and tamales. Their chilaquiles are too die for…their burritos ughhhh so good. Omggggg and don’t even get me started on the queso (with ground beef for me) or their bean dip… their bean dip is something else!! Really, I promise, everything is CONSISTENTLY good no matter if I go for lunch or late dinner. It’s always…JUST SO YUMMY.
They also have THE BEST and I am not exaggerating…they have THE BEST TRES LECHES CAKE. I will die on this hill. If you go there and you don’t order this….you are only doing yourself a disservice. Once again, I will apologize for the lack of pictures. I’m new at leaving reviews but I promise I will update with pictures the next time I visit LA bc this is one of those places I always frequent when I am in town. Give it a try. It’s very conveniently located right off I-12 by the...
