Restaurant Review: The George Tavern
During a recent visit to The George Tavern, I was impressed by the overall experience, from the extensive beer selection to the hearty food offerings. The atmosphere was welcoming and casual, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening out.
The beverage menu stood out immediately, offering a broad range of choices. From familiar domestic favorites like Miller Lite to imported selections including Japanese beers, The George Tavern caters to all tastes. The bucket of chilled beers, complete with fresh lime wedges, added a refreshing touch that enhanced the laid-back vibe.
On the culinary side, the food delivered on comfort and flavor. The chicken fried steak, generously smothered in creamy gravy, was a standout — crisp on the outside, tender inside, and paired nicely with classic sides like mashed potatoes and toast. The buffalo chicken sandwich was another highlight: crispy, juicy, and well-balanced with just the right amount of heat, served alongside a hearty portion of crispy, parmesan-dusted tater tots.
The only shortcoming of the meal was the corn side dish, which was served cold and lacked the same level of quality found in the rest of the meal. It was a small blemish on an otherwise excellent dining experience.
Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, rounding out a visit that felt well-paced and genuinely enjoyable.
Final Verdict: The George Tavern is a great destination for those seeking a solid beer selection, satisfying comfort food, and a casual, welcoming atmosphere. A minor improvement on the sides could elevate the experience even further, but overall, it’s a spot worth visiting —...
Read moreWe recently discovered The George's Taven a few weekends ago. It was AMAZING! We decided to go back again this last weekend. The drinks were top notch, even better than the first time. We had ordered chips and salsa/queso and honestly its the best queso I've had in a long time. We then ordered the fried pickles, and completely obsessed with them. We then ordered the burgers. Two bites in they were completely inedible, the salt in them was so high. The sever came over, apologized and offered to have them remade. The owner came over, was an amazingly kind man. Apologized profusely, explained burgers are made in house fresh, and he tried a batch and yes WAY to salted. Offer a drink on the house while we waited. They were top notch! Personally came over to check on us as soon as the new food was delivered. After we got into the first few bites, the salt content was still high. At that point we thought, let's just order another appetizer. At that time the cook/chef came over and asked about the food, almost aggressively. My Boyfriend said it was still too salty and he really didn't want another to where this cook/chef literally snatched the plate off the table and walked off. At that point I waved the server over and wanted our check. It was such a strange, awkward encounter we really just wanted to leave. We had hope this would be our new hangout, as its closer to our home and we loved the vibe, but that left a sour taste in our mouths. We will be back but it might be a little bit before we do.
Again- the owner and server were completely professional and top notch! The drinks are seriously on point... the best...
Read moreI’m gonna start by saying steak night was amazing. The food tasted great and also was a good portion. The steaks were cooked exactly how we asked.
Upsetting service and a smart aleck bartender or could have been manager definitely didn’t help the situation.
Our drinks were never refilled. 2 out of 4 of us wanted another bar drink but were never asked while eating. Our waitress only checked on us once in the hour we were there. However there was a gentleman that was trying to help her.
When the check was brought it was brought by a different lady who I assume was the bartender or manager. When asked how everything was we expressed it would have been nice to get service or even get refills on our bar drinks. Her reply was “well you can walk up to the bar anytime”… the person she said that too literally was in a walking boot with a broken leg so then she proceeded to say well one of yall couldn’t have got up and got this man a drink!
I think she missed the whole purpose of a dine in experience. And to suggest we should get up and get our own drinks definitely isn’t the way most people in the service industry would have handled the situation. We were there for a full service experience and we generally tip very well.
Sad that such service and bad attitudes can ruin good food and a pretty...
