Absolute WORST Cheddars location I’ve ever encountered. I’ve given them multiple chances before posting this review because I understand people can have a bad day or issue with staff. We’ve tried four times. The first time we just noticed dirt on seats, a few spots here and there that were very unclean in the restaurant overall but again could be due to staffing, being busy, etc. next time we come it’s even dirtier and the bathrooms are nasty. There’s running water on the floor across the entrance to the bathroom area and no one cares, even after reporting that someone could slip and fall. The third time we try, there’s trash littered all over the floor of the entryway and the hostesses are standing around doing nothing. We are then seated at a dirty table. When we asked for a cloth to clean the table, she puts our menus down IN the food and spillage on the table and goes to get a washcloth. Halfway wiped the table then put the dirty menus back down. The rest of the restaurant was disgusting and it was not very busy. We left and called to inform the manager of why in attempts someone will correct the issues. He says he’s very sorry and hasn’t been working here long but trying to address concerns. Asks us to give them another chance sometime on him. We’ve waited over a month and finally come back tonight thinking it was a good time to try again. As I’m trying to even get into the restaurant, I’m stabbed in the foot by a broken piece on the bottom of the door. Had I not grabbed the door handle I would have fallen on my face, and I did in fact twist my knee which is now still hurting. As I entered I informed the THREE hostesses who were just standing there. One of them replies “oh, you’re at least the third person that’s said that. I guess I can tell a manager”. I wait to be seated before asking for the manager and we explain what happened to her. She of course apologized and was nice but offered no resolution and didn’t seem to feel it was much of an issue even after being informed that is a lawsuit liability. We even stated we understand there can be issues with getting employees to which she stated “oh no we don’t have that issue”. She didn’t even say the meal would be on them even though we told her that was the reason we were there per the other managers invitation. Please don’t come here and don’t give them your money that would be better served at a local business that really needs it. Also, the water is still running across the floor when you go toward the bathroom area. I asked two employees standing nearby if this was a constant issue and they knew nothing about it. There were still no signs or attempts being made to clean it up. On a positive note, our server, Lauryn was nice and tried to take great care of us.

Our family went to the Denton location in December and had a great time! Great food with excellent service! So, we decided to do it again! I called on 6/18/24 @1:24pm to make a reservation, as I had also done, in December. The person answering the phone, was polite but told me, they don't take reservations. I let her know, I had done it before and asked to speak to a manager. I was transferred. A young woman, answered and said she was a manager, I asked her name she said Courtney. I told her my request, amount of people, day/date and time. She asked the name of the party and my phone number. She said they would call the day of, to confirm. According to my phone record, we were on the phone 5 min. 31 seconds. No one called 6/20, to confirm. We all descended, at our scheduled time 1:00p.m. I told the hostess, our name and reservation time. She advised, we could not be seated together. I asked for the manager Courtney. A young woman then came & said "I am a manager here" to which I replied "I'm looking for Courtney". She repeated, "I am a manager here". I replied, "ok but are you Courtney?" She said "yes", I said "ok great, I called and spoke to you and made a reservation for today at 1:00pm." To which, she looked me dead in the eye, with a smirky face and said "no mam, that never happened, there is nothing on the calendar, it just never happened". Are you kidding me, with this kind of way to speak to 19 customers! Needless to say, we continued bantering. She was, very rude, smirky faced, the entire conversation. She has Absolutely, no business, being in management! We had to wait, 30 minutes to be seated and they still, didn't prepare enough tables, we had to commandeer 3 more tables, ourselves. We only had 1 server. Her name was Katherine K. She was outstanding!! We had to wait an hour to get our food, which was good food! Kitchen did a great job, sending all the food out at one time. I felt sorry, for both Katherine & the kitchen staff, as they were not prepared for us, because of Courtney's failure to write it down! If another family member hadn't been standing in the room with me, when I made that call/reservation, on speaker, I would seriously question my sanity! For her to say to me, at the end of our banter, "well do you want to wait and do it, or not"! As a retired head chef and former restaurant GM, if I were the GM at Cheddar's in Denton, TX, that young woman, would not have a job today! In summary, food has always been very good, service has been very good, clearly management is Super disrespectful and sketchy! I recommend, seeking out a different Cheddar's.

It's good. Service good. Just not great. No complaints. Enjoyed the experience. Update: Haven't been in a while. This time was quite unpleasant. Took a long time to get our drinks, was ready to place our entire order, we told her the appetizer and she vanished. Our appetizer was delivered by someone else that just put it on the table and left...with no plates, we hadn't even placed our order. Finally she returned and we gave her our order as she was taking the empty appetizer plate. We waited a while, and a while, and a while until she came by and said let me go check on your order. Few minutes later she returns with my salad and says our entreé is almost ready. We wait, and wait, and wait, and finally, 1.5 hours after seating we receive our meal. My steak is rare instead of medium well, the beans and rice were super salty and all my food was cold. My butter wouldn't melt on my potato, the sour cream I asked to omit was scraped off. My daughters food was cold, her steak was rare as requested but the side was incorrect. The correct side was brought quickly and was hot, we asked for the check and to go boxes then so we could just take it home and cook my steak and heat up the rest. Then I had to wait 15 more minutes to get some glaze charge we didn't ask for or get and that corrected side taken off my bill. By the time I got home I didn't feel like cooking my steak and heating my food. I certainly wasn't sending it back, I paid for what we got and I did tip. Just probably going to be even longer before returning to this location next go round.

this happened awhile ago & it still rubs me the wrong way. it’s not about the food, but about the manager miss amy. now i would love to rip into her right now, but i’ll keep it pg. i had an interview awhile back for a BUSSER, you know the job where you literally clean tables, sweep, mop, take out trash, overall it’s just keeping things clean? i don’t know about anyone else, but i happen to have a home that i clean almost everyday, and i also am currently a barista meaning i have a work place i also clean almost every day given i now work almost every day. at the time of this incident, i had recently just started my job as a barista, so i wasn’t working very much, i was in the process of moving into a new apartment and i needed all the extra money i could get. so i applied to be a busser at cHeDdArS and i had my first interview with a lovely lady named Courtney. now, my interview with courtney went so great. we chit chatted, we laughed, she was so kind and professional and it lasted about 45 minutes. i walked out with a good feeling about my second interview. i had called for amy on a monday to set up my second interview as courtney instructed me to do and it was around 4:00pm and amy said to come at 5:30. i rushed to get ready, the traffic on the way there was hell and i was panicking because i was going to be late. i got there at 5:30 on the dot, thank god right? i wasn’t late! little did i know, it wouldn’t have mattered if i was late. i got there, the hostess let amy know and you know what i did? i sat there for 45 minutes before amy finally approached me. now at first, i was like okay okay it’s fine, she was doing another interview & it happened to last 45 minutes. but it’s what happened after she finally came and got me that really just boils my blood a little. she brings me to a table and she says she’ll be right back. i wait another 5-7 minutes and she comes back with my paperwork from my first interview and some new paperwork. now i will admit, i’m a very nervous person when it comes to interviews. i get sweaty, and i stutter and stumble over my words every now and then, but i’ve always been under the impression that it’s normal and okay to be nervous. so, i was even more nervous with miss amy because right off the bat she wasn’t very nice. a very passive aggressive, condescending lady. this woman asks me ONE question. for 10 minutes she’s asking me where did you work before this, and where did you work before that, you get the picture. i went all the way back to my first job at 16, baring it was very hard for me to remember that far back. (i turn 22 in march). so i started to struggle a little bit and get even more nervous the further back she asked. after 10 minutes, she cuts me off, shakes my hand & just tells me “so i’m not gonna offer you the job, have a good day” and walked off and that was IT??? did i sit there for like 20 seconds in shock and confusion? yes i did. was i speechless? yes i was. did i want to grab the shitty sweet tea they gave me and throw it at her? absolutely. you essentially just wasted an hour and a half of my time for LITERALLY NOTHING??? i waited almost an hour just for you to ask me one question and then base your decision off of that one question?? anyways, just needed to get that off my chest. i found it very unprofessional & just flat out rude and inconsiderate. i hope everyday that she gets fired🫶🏼 shout out to courtney though, you’re...

If I could rate Cheddar’s based solely on the food, this review would be an enthusiastic 5 stars with fireworks, confetti, and maybe a marching band. The meal was that good. But sadly, I can’t ignore the one thing that dragged the whole experience down: the god-awful trivia on the iPad at the table. More on that in a second.

Let’s talk about the good first—because it deserves praise. I ordered the chicken fried steak, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it might be the best I’ve ever had. The portion was massive, the breading was perfectly crispy, and the steak itself was so tender I barely needed a knife. It came smothered in the most glorious country gravy—peppery, creamy, and poured with no restraint. I would’ve gladly taken a gravy IV drip.

The mashed potatoes were real-deal homestyle, not some sad powdered mix pretending to be the real thing. The green beans were seasoned and smoky, like someone’s grandma was back there stirring them in a cast iron pot. Everything tasted fresh, made with love, and perfectly portioned for someone with a serious appetite (like me).

The service? Fantastic. Our server was friendly, quick, and kept drinks full without us having to ask. The food came out hot and fast, and every part of the experience felt smooth and welcoming. Honestly, Cheddar’s knows how to run a dining room and make people feel taken care of.

Now, on to the reason I’m giving only 3 stars: that cursed iPad trivia game.

You know those little tablets they have at the table, where you can pay your bill, order dessert, or keep yourself busy while you wait? Harmless enough—until you start playing one of their trivia games. What followed was 15 minutes of digital misery.

First of all, the trivia questions made no sense. They swung wildly from “What color is the sky?” to “Name the 14th-century mathematician who invented the concept of imaginary numbers.” No joke. It was either insultingly easy or PhD-level hard, with nothing in between.

Second, the touchscreen was laggy and unresponsive. Half the time, we’d tap an answer and it wouldn’t register, or it would jump to the next screen and skip the question entirely. Some rounds glitched out completely. No scoreboard, no structure—just chaos in tablet form.

And worst of all? They try to charge you to play more rounds after a while. That’s right—you get roped into a frustrating, broken trivia experience, and then they ask for money to keep suffering.

So while the food and service were top-tier, I left with a bad taste in my mouth—not from the steak (that was flawless), but from the pointless aggravation of that trivia game. It felt like being served a gourmet meal in a room with a fire alarm going off in the background.

TL;DR: Go to Cheddar’s. Get the chicken fried steak. Love your life. But for the love of God, don’t touch that...
