We called in an order with El Tejado as our first experience with them. I ordered chicken mole with corn tortillas and my wife ordered cheese enchiladas. We also sprung for a side of salsa, queso, and chips. For dessert, we ordered flan. When I arrived for pickup, the staff were friendly and our order was ready very close to the estimated time. While I waited, I watched soccer on the nearby TV.
STARTERS: One highlight of the dinner was the queso. Their queso is very good because it has a nice level of heat combined with a really good cheese flavor; I hope they never change this because it's hard to stop eating it. I am very picky about salsa and I personally love their salsa. It could be lighter with the onion but the heat level is a perfect (medium-hot) and it has fantastic flavor.
MAIN COURSE: The chicken mole was tasty and had a good level of heat. The chicken was cooked perfectly as well. My only criticism is that the mole wasn't as sweet as I expected, but it still had good flavor... would definitely order again.
For cheese enchiladas. There's less to criticize here since it is not as complicated as mole, but I did try it and it did have good flavor and texture. My wife also was happy with it.
This is worth mentioning too and is rarely brought up. But the corn tortillas (tlaxcalli) are made extremely well. A lot of places will serve you really dry corn tortillas that fall apart and break so easily...their corn tortillas do not do this. I don't know how they are pulling it off but I love it. Trust me, you don't need to bother with Conquistador tortillas (a.k.a. flour tortillas). Get the real deal here.
DESSERT: The flan is quite good. The texture is perfectly delicate and the flavor is really dialed in and not overpowering. We would definitely order this again.
FINAL THOUGHTS: El Tejado is definitely worth stopping for. They have some really good things to try from start to finish. We will...
Read moreI used. To come here all the time, they have awesome food awesome. However, I came in a couple of nights ago right? When they were closing, they were nice enough to make my order. However, I was getting it for my son who has allergies and I said no onions, lettuce or tomato, there was onions in it. And I'm not complaining about the food. I never do stuff like this. I don't live down in this area. They were close. I couldn't call to let him know. I drove really far to get back home. There was absolutely no way. I could have said anything at all to them that night. I have twins. I'm a single mother I work and I'm in school. I'm down here working today. Locally, I called to let them know and I was very polite. She wouldn't do anything for me. The manager and she hung up on me. I'm very disappointed. I also have the food saved as well in my fridge. So they are more than welcome to look at it. It didn't get AI wouldn't be wasting my time on all this. I'm extremely busy, but that's really frustrating. I'm very disappointed in them and I'm really disappointed that I can't go there to eat anymore because I can't. Let that's light. I don't know about everybody else, but $25 is a lot of money to me. I'm not rich so every now and then. When we treat ourselves to go out and get something to eat for fun. That's kind of a special thing that me and my kids do and we didn't get to eat everything else was closed. We were hungry and it was wrong order. And she didn't do anything to make it right today. When I've been a customer there for many years. I'm pretty upset about that. Any ideas on any other way to go about that? I sure do hate doing a bad reviews on people. But I feel like nowadays the customer service sucks. Thoughts, ideas concerns.I really don't even have time to be doing this but...
Read moreThis was my first time dining at El Tejado. I've driven by countless times, but finally got a group together to go.
The main two issues are as follows: We had decided to try the queso as a table. It arrived to the table ice cold - basically like it was just scooped from a jar. Their queso is priced at $8.95 for reference. We requested to swap it out for some guacamole, and the waiter quickly took the untouched queso away and never brought the guacamole.
Out of the 6 people in the group 4 of us purchased margaritas. One of the four margaritas was frozen and came out sperated. The consistency was similar to movie theater queso that was left out in a theatre after a movie. We requested a margarita on the rocks, and our separated un-drinkable margarita was removed and replaced with a new one on the rocks.
When we got our bill we noticed the queso and the margarita that were removed from our table we're still listed. The manager, Marcos came out to tell us the queso uses "fresh ingredients" and we could have asked to have it warmed. Also, the margarita sometimes separates when it's frozen. Due to their policy they can't remove the items - basically making it out like we were trying to eat and not pay for queso/Marg's (that were removed and not edible)
Nine out of ten times when an issue is brought up with a server/management it is usually made right for the customer. There typically isn't a discussion about quality of ingredients or "policy".
While the food was okay...if you feel the need to be talked down to about bringing up and issue with food then visit this establishment.
For what it's worth the bathrooms were also in dis-array. By that I mean there are no paper towels and urine pools...
