Read moreI tried to contact the owner prior to writing this review, as I am very, VERY slow to say anything negative about someone’s business because that is their livelihood. But the very same person who was so cold and unwelcoming and made me decide to write only the third bad review I’ve ever written in my entire life, is the same person who answered the phone when I tried to leave a message for the owner to get clarification on whether my experience was an anomaly before warning people away. So he told me to go ahead and write a scathing review. So that’s what I’m doing. If you want to go someplace where you can feel unwelcome and like a burden – – Hazel appears to be the place. I have been wanting to stop in to check it out, as it looks cute. I have to say that it is very cute inside, when I came in, though , a guy sitting at the bar on his computer came around behind the bar. I was confused as to what to do as he didn’t say anything & just looked irritated that someone had bothered to come in. Apparently I had interrupted whatever he was doing at his computer. Or at least that’s how I felt. So I asked what I was supposed to do, thinking there may be some other protocol that I wasn’t aware of – – and he said for me to just pick a seat and order – – as though I was an idiot. If I hadn’t been so confused by the cold reception that I received initially, I wouldn’t have asked the question in the first place. I felt so unwelcome I just left. It was remarkably, uniquely bad and uncomfortable and weird.
And Apparently there’s no need to bother trying to contact the owner either. I just wanted to get clarification prior to writing something negative because I do take it so seriously; but he told me she is unreachable & to go ahead and write a “scathing review”, so here I am. He wouldn’t take my information to have her call me & he says the owner doesn’t get back to people and that he never knows when she is going...
Read moreThis is one of the strangest bars I've ever been to. I live nearby and have dropped in only a handful of times, but each time had it's own strange experience.
First time - a couple of my friends and I dropped by, ordered a few pints. One of my friends asked if they had a mexican lager and the bartender -- who seemed to be doing some kind of rough-around-the-edges bit -- told him he can "make any lager mexican by throwing a lime in it". I guess my friend didn't appreciate the joke and made some snarky but nevertheless harmless response. The bartender didn't take the criticism well and proceeded to flick my friends credit card back at him. I'd attribute this to bad luck and not malicious and extremely accurate aim, but it struck my buddy right between the eyes. It was hilarious, but not exactly professional. So, of course we had to chime in with "hey, what do you think you're doing?" When he realized he took it too far, and clearly the bit hadn't landed (tough crowd I guess), he apologized profusely and gave us all free shots.
Second outing was a bit different. We dropped in for a beer on a Friday evening, maybe 7pm. We asked what beers were on draft. The guy went and checked the drafts and what would you know, the kegs were all kicked! So instead of switching them out, he says eh no beer on draft I guess. Okay fine. What about cans? So he starts opening up fridges for a few moments like he just moved into a new house and throws in the towel real quick, just shrugs. Well then, I guess we don't have cans either. You're a bar...on a Friday night... I can handle the credit card incident, but no beer... that's just unforgiveable. We went next door to Sexy Pizza. You wouldn't believe it. They had beer.
All told, as long as you exclusively drink cocktails and don't mind being sort-of, kind-of assaulted, this place might just be the...
