I take no pleasure in writing this review, and it almost pains me to say so, but I am going to have to break up with you Sexy Pizza - Pearl Street. Based on the number of times we've cashed in our ten pizza tickets for the freebie, I'd estimate we've probably purchased 80-90 pizzas (if not more!) from here over the many years; we're talking hundreds of dollars. But I can no longer handle the overcooked, charred pizzas you've been cranking out as of late, as they are inedible and it ruins the whole Friday night pizza party mojo, leaving us scrambling for something else. We love your support of the community through important donations/initiatives, the way you pay your employees a decent wage, and when it's going well, the way the pizza tastes; these are all things that justify the higher-than-most prices. But perhaps no longer. I mean, the service at the counter is always amiable, too, and having a beer at the bar while waiting is never a bad experience. But something has really declined here over the six months or so, and we've had several instances now of black/burnt pizzas that cannot be eaten, and it's made me had to turn to these review pages. Of course, since Sexy Pizza truly does value their customers, the two times I've called about it (other times we were so hungry, we made due, while not ideal, cutting off the burnt pieces, shearing off some edges, scraping the bottoms), I was immediately given a choice to have new ones made--albeit a 1.5 - 2 hour delivery time, another issue in itself--or a refund. So they "made it right" in that way, giving options to us. But it still doesn't address the fact we had no dinner, and the night was shot--it's a bummer all around because we just cannot count on what we're going to get each time we order--will it come perfectly cooked, or blackened like asphalt? And this inconsistency renders them a terrible option now. As a (very) amateur pizzaolo myself, the difference 30 seconds cook time can make is staggering, and I'm not sure if these stints of burnt pies are the victim of the store's own success? As in, they are too busy and slinging way too many pies (the long delivery times affirm this, it seems) that they lose track of what's going on in the ovens? What gets rotated, what comes out? Also, the pizzas are always kept warm on the top of the ovens when done, and in putting them up there while waiting for a driver to pick up, are they cooking for extra and unnecessary time? Sadly, even when I've picked up the pies myself, they've been a little overdone, too, and I've been there right when they come from the oven with no extra warming. I know pizza tastes are subjective, but the bottoms should absolutely have no black as that overpowers any other flavors in the pie. I'm leaving this review in hopes that some changes can be made (better oven cleaning, more knowledgable staff?) as the ingredients Sexy uses are top-notch, and when these pies are done right,...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible service. Placed an order at 5:19 and was given an estimated 30 minutes wait time. I know how busy the area can be so I gave the order am extra half hour. Takes me about 30 minutes to get to the location ( none are close to where I reside). I arrived about an hour after the order was placed. My girlfriend goes in to get the pizza, they can't find the order by name, phone number, credit card number, or the actual order itself. And insist if she ordered the pizza she would need to go home and get her phone which it was ordered on to show a confirmation #. After she told me this I went in the store myself and sure enough this is exactly what they told me. I asked to use one of their phones as my house was almost half an hour away and they just said no. Fair enough.. I made it clear that I had paid for the pizza and that since they couldn't find my order any other way than me showing them a confirmation # I would be back with the requested info to get my pizza. So I leave and return. I sped the whole way home and back so I got back around 7:15/7:20. When I got back the staff was like "oh you're back?" Yes I'm back for the pizza I payed $30 for. I showed them my girlfriends phone with the confirmation screen on their website from when I ordered. The kitchen manager looked at the order on the screen and handed the phone back to the cashier. And then the cashier proceeded to tell me that I needed to give them a minute for them to decide if they want to remake the pizza or give me a refund. That made me absolutely livid. 2 hours of trying to get something I paid for bringing proof that I paid for it, and it's not even my choice of if I want the pizza or not?? The cashier did correct herself and ask what I would prefer after she stated that but at this point I was just so livid with the situation that I just demanded a refund. The situation was just humiliating. The kitchen manager clearly thought this was some sort of scam or something while I'm sitting there miserably just trying to get a pizza that was already paid for. He couldn't even give me an answer when I asked why he hadn't started on the pizza when I came in an hour ago and stated I would come back with the proof I paid for the pizza or money for it if it turned out I accidentally didn't place the order. He literally just shrugged and laughed in my face which in result had the man and his son in line behind me laughing and the people sitting nearest to the counter. I'd rather be forced to eat 7/11 pizza for the rest of my life than spend a...
Read moreThis location is one of my favorite places for date night or to go to with friends who visit from out of town. It was my favorite pizza and in the past the customer service was excellent. I never had a negative experience. We took some friends here last night who always look forward to going when they visit. Little did we know that things are not th same. The customer service was 1 star at best. I didn't recognize any of the staff despite being a regular in the recent past.
The cashier was checked out and spent most of his time flirting with a red head sitting at the counter. The kitchen staff were chit chatting. Meanwhile, we were still waiting on the pizza we ordered at 9:23 pm, which didn't arrive to our table until 10:10 pm -- originally we were told the wait was 20-25 minutes. At one point we could hear a manager yelling at the staff for not working fast enough. We were the only diners in the building. Like others have said in their reviews, it felt like only the to-go or delivery orders were churning out while we sat there with no food.
One of us ordered two slices, both of which were undercooked. The cream cheese wasn't melted and was cold. The veggies on the supreme slice were completely raw like they were thrown on after it came out of the oven. Our knots and salad never came out and weren't made until we reminded the staff. The knots came out cold so the staff remade them -- then they were burnt. The icing on the cake was when one of our out-of-town guests found a hair in her pizza. She couldn't stomach it after that.
I really loved this place and recommend it to everyone. Not sure I can do that anymore. I'm not writing this to trash the establishment. Rather, I really care about this spot and have really enjoyed coming here over the years. I don't want to see it go down hill. Honestly, if I had never been here before, I would absolutely...
