after living a few doors down from Kentucky Inn for nearly seven years, we finally decided to try it for takeout when the temperatures dipped below zero and it was too icy to drive. even as a last resort for which we had very low expectations, the meal still managed to disappoint.
we got two of the most basic, safe menu items you can get at a restaurant - a burger and chicken tenders - and neither was good. when we opened the takeout boxes, it looked more like a doggy bag of leftovers with the tiny amount of soggy, limp shoestring fries, which couldn’t even be saved by my air fryer.
the burger was boring & forgettable and the chicken tenders were more like big, thick cutlets meant for a sandwich, rather than strips. they were not only hard to eat because of how difficult they were to handle & pull apart, but because they had ZERO flavor whatsoever. how do they even do it? I’ve eaten chicken tenders more than any other meal at restaurants throughout my life and they were genuinely the worst I have ever had — no hesitation or exaggeration in saying that. bland & tasteless - as were the onion rings, which is weirdly impressive considering how much flavor onions naturally have.
in fact, the ENTIRE meal was completely unseasoned and flavorless. the entrees, fries, and onion rings were not touched by even salt. I added both salt and seasoned salt to my meal and that still wasn’t even enough. the only way we were able to eat any of it was with the help of dipping sauce (not theirs — their tiny cup of homemade ranch was not good), which did all of the heavy lifting, but still couldn’t save it. and honestly, it was an insult to the high quality ketchup it was dipped in. I cannot fathom why anyone would have good things to say about their food, especially with their prices. might as well get fast food — at least that has some flavor.
it’s a shame they provided such a thoroughly disappointing meal, but ultimately validating for why we never bothered in seven years (also, the ambience always looked atrocious). certainly won’t...

Read moreWe came in on a Saturday for lunch about 30 minutes before the Buffs kickoff, and there were several groups already at the bar, high top tables and at the tables/booths in the back room. The crowd was mixed ages, including parties of young families, retirees, families with adult children, etc. Many college games were on the various TVs, and the sound was tuned to the channel that would show the Buffs, but not so loud it prevented conversation.
Our party of two was able to find a table and enjoyed the smoked buffalo wings and cheese burger. The fries were great, the wings were spicy and flavorful, and the burger was delicious with each component good on its own, making the sandwich pretty great. I particularly liked the toasted crust on the bun as a compliment to the fresh red onion, lettuce, pickles, and beef. The service was attentive and did a great job circulating to check on patrons, including taking additional drink and food orders as others arrived to join another large party seated next to us.
It has been a while since I've visited the Kentucky Inn, but I'm excited to add it back into the regular rotation as the food and...
