This place sounded so promising, and the pics looked so good. But overall we were pretty disappointed. The beer menu is very limited to the predictable beer selection, with only a small handful of macro brews on tap. No local or craft beers available. I ordered the blackened catfish. It has to be the worst blackened catfish I've ever had. Very little seasoning, and wasn't really blackened. Just tasted like they sauteed it in Tabasco sauce. The size of the portion was also very small for a $16 plate. It looked like the small frozen catfish fillets you get at Walmart. The server also asked us if we wanted "salad or a cup of gumbo" with our meals. The menu only said salad, so we both said "Sure!" But then when we got the bill, there was a $4 upcharge on both our meals that she didn't tell us about. When we let her know we weren't happy about it, her only response was "oh I thought I told you" and walked away. The gumbo was average, and the "cup" was barely larger than a ramekin for a sauce. Overall, we won't be back.
Edit: the response from the establishment pretty much confirms my assessment. Lots of excuses, no real concern about our experience. There are plenty of Cajun themed restaurants in Denver that do a far better job.
I'd recommend the cooks go eat at Pappadeaux. It's totally a chain, but their food is far superior. And they know how to blacken catfish and don't try to trick customers with hidden upcharges. And they don't make excuses...
Read moreWaitress Jordan was terrible. Saw her getting drunk at the bar for most of the night rather than waiting on tables. I watched the bartender come from behind the bar during a busy night multiple times to service tables and they were getting their drinks Within a minute or two whereas the average table with Jordan was taking 20 or 30 minutes to get drinks. You would think they would want to sell as much as they could rather than paying for their staff to get drunk and talk to other staff members. Tonight, 3/17. After waiting 45 minutes to get my tab I walked up to the bar and watch her and the waitress next to her taking drinks. Interestingly I got my drink immediately when I was standing at the bar. It seems like you've got three or four staff that are actually working and the rest of the people just kind of standing around talking to each other and taking shots. I also watched probably three or four people complain about not getting their drinks who were sitting around me tonight. And frankly considering the owner was working tonight you would think they would have better oversight over the people...
Read moreA historical neighborhood bar and restaurant! The entertainment is excellent 4 days a week. They give back by fundraising for various good causes. The Cajun food is authentic and delicious. I've enjoyed every meal I've ever had here. The cost recently went up, however, it remains my favorite place for lunch and dinner on special occasions. I love playing here. The dance floor is fun. The restrooms are clean. There's an enclosed patio and plenty of indoor seating. The jukebox is excellent and there are large TV screens to watch sports and such. There's usually no cover charge unless it's a very special event. Even my service dog is made to feel welcome as are the patrons, of course! The employees have always been personable and outgoing over the years. I'm not a big drinker and often only come to play music or dance. I'm still made to feel welcome. The regulars are like friends or family. Children are welcome as long as the kitchen is open. Sunday's entertainers play in the afternoons, and many families come in. It's a great place for a party as...
