Been there twice.
A Friday experience was ok...lot of people, good vibe and service was below average. Bartender said there is a minimum $9 charge when using a credit card?? So, we were forced to buy 3 bottles of beer plus tip.
Went back on a Sunday night, very chill. However, service was poor, bartenders were rude and not very talkative.
We spent $10 on the juke box, finally 2 of out of 8 songs were played back to back. We picked pop, hip hop songs to dance to, since we had a bunch of us out. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. After our two songs were played, then very laid back chill songs started to play. We noticed the bartender continued to go to his phone and was scrolling through a music app. We questioned if he was changing the songs and said no, he doesn't have the authority to do that. Hour later oir songs still haven't played, we asked again, why haven't our songs played???? We saw a sign on the juke box that says the "bar has the right to skip songs". The bartender said that only happens on Friday or Saturday's when it gets crazy. So.... The bartenders DO HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO CHANGE THE SONGS.
Overall, the bartender lied to us multiple times. Two other customers started to complain as their songs were not being played.
A long time patron said, you're out of luck, the bartender has control and if he doesn't like what's being played on the juke box, forget it.
Bottom line, drinks are just ok, overpriced, and don't waste your money on the juke box, just be prepared to listen to the music of the bartenders choice. Won't go back again, as there are places to go that actually care about...
Read moreWhoever the owner of this bar is, should immediately fire the GM. My partner and I witnessed a male customer act extremely inappropriate towards a female customer. The actions were not only inappropriate, but also became physical. The female defended herself with her drink. The GM approached us, and his solution was to remove everyone in the close vicinity from the bar. Upon confrontation with the female, the GM audibly blamed the female for the incident, which was completely out of her control, and which also aligns with victim blaming. The GM made accusations before consulting witnesses, and made decisions before hearing the full story. If you support women’s rights, and the defending of them, you will never frequent this bar. I believe the GM failed his duty to make the bar a comfortable place for everyone, as he let the male back into the bar but refused entry to the female whom was defending herself. We later learned that this male has caused issues at this bar before. Under no circumstances should this...
Read moreUsed to be a go to bar for me. However, after attending this establishment on Saturday night this week, I can not see myself ever returning again. Popped in for one drink to end the night before going home. I politely asked for a straw to which the bartender responded "We're out of straws. How about you drink it with your mouth like an adult!" Yikesss! Unsure how my question deserved such a hostile response but that's not the issue here. The issue is that, had I been disabled or with someone who was disabled and required a straw to drink, Matchbox might have a bigger issue on their hands other than this one star Google review. Get your staff's attitudes under control, Matchbox! And perhaps, hold an employee training with a deep dive into the Americans with...
