I recently had the pleasure of visiting Izzio Bakery at Central Market in Denver, Colorado, and it was an experience worth every mile I traveled! I flew in from Seattle specifically to indulge in Denver's vibrant and growing foodie scene, and Izzio Bakery was a standout highlight. My son joined me from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and we embarked on a weekend of culinary exploration that I will not soon forget.
The pastries at Izzio Bakery are nothing short of exceptional, showcasing both incredible flavor and masterful execution. The Lemon Meringue Tart was a revelation – the perfect balance of tart and sweet, with a buttery crust that crumbled delicately with each bite. The lemon filling was smooth and bursting with citrusy brightness, topped with a cloud-like meringue that had just the right amount of sweetness and a beautiful, golden finish.
Next, the Dulce de Leche LA ROULETTE was a sublime treat. It was rich and decadent, with layers of tender pastry wrapped around a luscious dulce de leche filling. The caramel notes were deep and satisfying, each bite melting in my mouth and leaving me craving more. The craftsmanship in this pastry was evident, from the perfectly flaky layers to the rich, velvety center.
The Berry, Custard, and Crème LA ROULETTE was a delightful contrast of flavors and textures. The freshness of the berries paired wonderfully with the silky custard, all encased in a light and airy pastry that provided the perfect backdrop to the vibrant fruit and creamy filling. Each bite was a harmonious blend of sweetness and tartness, with the berries adding a burst of flavor that elevated the entire experience.
But it wasn't just the pastries that made our visit memorable – the staff at Izzio Bakery were second to none. Warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable, they made us feel right at home and added to the overall exceptional experience. Their passion for what they do is evident in every detail, from the meticulous presentation of the pastries to the friendly service.
Having flown across the country for gastronomic adventures, I can confidently say that Izzio Bakery did not disappoint. It was well worth the trip, and I would fly back to Denver in a heartbeat just for another bite of their extraordinary pastries. If you're in Denver, this is a must-visit spot for anyone who appreciates top-tier baking and a truly unforgettable...
Read moreEAT AT IZZIO!!! I just had a first-time experience at Izzio and had to run straight to google to leave a review. My boyfriend and I originally went just to get pastries but after reading their lunch menu, decided we would get brunch/lunch with a pastry for dessert. They were so kind and patient as we asked questions and decided which of the MANY mouth-watering pastries to get. My boyfriend got the Dulce Cream Bun and I got the Chocolate Ganache La Roulette. For lunch/brunch, he got the Fresh Berry & Cream Croffle, and I got the Grilled Burrito with Pork Belly and plantain. While we waited for our entrees, we tasted the pastries and they were EXCEPTIONAL. I cannot overstate enough; The chocolate ganache croissant wheel (La Roulette) was one of, if not THE best, pastry I’ve ever had. When our food came, my boyfriend said his croffle was the perfect sweet breakfast option. My burrito, although some parts of it were yummy, I found the pork belly to be hit or miss - some pieces were very dry and some were too fatty and chewy. I’m a typical millennial, and the idea of sending food back is not something I usually do, but this burrito was massive and I had only taken a couple bites. And although reasonably priced for the portion size, it was not an amount of money I wanted to go to waste. So I went back to the counter and politely explained my dilemma. The staff was very kind and understanding. They offered to make me another entree of my choosing right away to replace it as well as send me with another pastry on the house. I politely declined both of these offers and just asked if a refund could be processed. The woman who helped me (I wish I would have gotten her name) agreed immediately and processed the refund right away. She also insisted I go home with a complimentary pastry. All this to say - Izzio provides the level of service I wish every food establishment would with incredible...
Read moreWhat a disappointing experience.
TLDR; at least one person who works here is miserable, and if you’re unlucky enough to deal with them it will screw up your experience and potentially your order.
Long version: I was really excited to visit Izzio to try their roulette pastries which appeared both gorgeous and delicious. I ordered one - along with a koiugn amman, a sourdough loaf, and two breakfast burritos. I was given the loaf of bread and the other pastry and a buzzer to wait for the roulette and the burritos. The cashier was very kind and friendly, all good so far.
When my buzzer rings I realize I have no idea where to pick up my food. When I see a basket for used buzzers and a bag with food on the same table I attempt to ask a woman who is working right next to the counter if this is order 47. It doesn’t appear to be my full order, and I definitely don’t want to take someone else’s food. After saying excuse me three times with no response I give up and figure I’ll wait until another employee comes by or someone else picks up food.
She actually comes to the counter with a boxed pastry and I say “Hi, is this order 47?” She responds “si” with a look that made me feel like she was insulted that I dared speak to her. When I ask if the boxed pastry is the roulette (only the two burritos were in the bag) she nods and immediately turns away.
As it turns out, aside from the rudeness, the boxed pastry was not the roulette I ordered. I went home with the wrong order, missing the exact one thing I had come for.
The two stars are for the food I did get - all of it was delicious - but I don’t know if it’s enough to make me return in the hopes of getting better service and/or a...
