Management should have had the foresight to warn all future customers to beware of product substitution when it gets later in the evening and displayed flavors are in short supply. I have been going to Nuggs for quite some time. I have been a sporatic, due to career demands, but loyal customer non the less for many years. I have no inside intel to back this next statement up, however I'm pretty confident if DeAndre' was still there he would be able to identify me with the order of 4 Quarts. Always the same flavors with the occasional quart swap for the in seasonal peach flavor. I have been away for some time and have been looking forward to coming back and enjoying the great American treat of Ice Cream. Tonight was a huge disappointment, not in flavor but in slight of hand. As I approached the counter for my order to be taken I noticed the flavor I wanted was low in the container and an employee picked the bucket up out of the chiller and moved it to the back counter. Another employee asked me for my order and I replied, "I was wanting a couple of scoops of Salted Caramel but he just pulled it because it was low". She said don't worry we have another container back. I replied, "Okay". She rang me up, I paid before receiving my order then exited the store upon receiving my Salted Caramel cone. To my surprise when I got into my vehicle and tasted what was served to me it was way short of salted caramel. It was a Maple flavor instead of Caramel. I know this sounds quite miniscule it's only ice cream, right? But when you spend months and months away from the US and look forward to a handful of things when you return only to find employees of a company who have accepted the practice of deceit so they don't have to watch a customer leave without purchasing after being told the truth that they are unable to fill your order and instead make the decision to fill the order with the next closest flavor, playing the odds that by the time the customer tastes it it won't be worth the effort to come back in. Like I mentioned, this is not a huge disappointment of flavor, the maple whatever tasted fine, what ice cream doesn't taste fine? It is the deceitful business practice to move product out the door at all costs that needs to be brought to every...
Read moreTwas' a warm afternoon on September 15th. Dinner had been finished when I looked over at Bae and stated the obvious, "I want something sweet." After constructive arguing, the theme wafted of... ice cream. I regressed to a dark memory of a dust-old cone (too hard to bite comfortably) with heavy chocolate and creme at Cold Stone leaving me filled with regret for having allowed overworked, under-paid teens, to serve me a corporate mutation of a desert. We got the car and I look over at bae and say, "maybe we can get desert at the grocery store and pick up things we need as well... " feeling defeated for hopes of a nice place for desert. But, a braver soul in me turned left onto conflax and then right into Nuggs. We walk in and... it was quiet, not busy but not awkward. A gaze at all the flavors, still doubtful for my hopes... I tell Bae go to first. I try a flavor, and another. Not heavy and just the right amount of sweet. My mind immediately goes to "cup" when I hear Bae take the initiative and say, "Cone Please." A coin drops in my mind. I think to myself, "how foolish of her" when I see the young worker begin to make a fresh cone from batter. Baffled, my inner-child begins to surface from what felt like darkened abyss. Ignorant bliss fills my head with possibilities and wonders of the world when I respond to the attendent, "...yes, cone also..." 5 minutes go by and I'm at cone-ice-creme level when I take a bite and am baffled by how light and complementing the cone is to the flavor and I feel a youthful-like exuberance fill my sensations in a way desert never has before. Within 10 MINUTES, it's gone... I enter my house lay on the bed where Bae and I had constructively argued before... Happy, that I live in a...
Read moreNugg’s Ice Cream is hands down one of the best ice cream spots in Denver, and I was really excited to check it out based on all the great reviews. The quality of their ice cream is fantastic—super creamy, rich flavors, and clearly made with care. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming, and the staff is friendly and efficient. They’ve got a solid selection of flavors, from the classics to more creative options, and I appreciate the variety of toppings they offer.
But here’s the deal: they don’t have Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as a candy add-on. I honestly can’t wrap my head around this. Reese’s is one of the most popular ice cream toppings out there, and somehow, it’s missing from their menu? Every time I go to an ice cream shop, I’m hoping to see it as an option, and time and time again in Denver, I’m disappointed. It’s absolutely frustrating.
I’m not saying this is a dealbreaker for everyone, but for me, it’s a big miss. Peanut butter and chocolate are a classic combo, and plenty of other ice cream places across the country recognize that. Why not here? It’s such a simple fix—just add Reese’s to the topping menu, and this place would be an easy 5-star spot for me.
I really want to love Nugg’s completely, and I’d be more than happy to update my review if they fix this oversight. Until then, I’m sticking with 3 stars—great ice cream, great shop, but missing a key topping that should absolutely be available. If you don’t care about Reese’s as much as I do, you’ll probably love it. But if you’re like me and want that peanut butter-chocolate combo, just be aware you won’t...
