Not sure what to expect when visiting here, as the food and the service were drastically different on my two visits within a week of each other. Had this incredible hashbrown on my first visit that was extra crispy and thick. It was special, and unlike any hashbrown patty I've ever tasted. It was like a deep fried latke. It was so scrumptious I began craving it. Hence my return 3 days later for more "potatoey" goodness, and to sample more of the menu. As the hashbrown wasn't the only tasty menu item I had during my first visit. The biscuit of the day happened to be a delectable garlic biscuit. Mmm the smell of this biscuit when I unwrapped it was so savory. I added some French butter and enjoyed every morsel of its soft and crumbly goodness. The classic biscuit, was just that classic and the from scratch strawberry limoncello jam was sweet with very subtle strawberry and even less limoncello flavor. Definitely no complaints with my first visit, especially since my online order was packed, labeled and on the counter window waiting when I arrived. The female employee pleasantly greeted me, and explained how the contact less pick up process worked as I had entered through the wrong door. She quickly grabbed my bag, wished me well and sent me on my way. All in all my first experience was one filled with pleasantries, information and tasty treats. Sadly my second visit was nothing like the first. I waited at least 35 minutes (past my scheduled pick up time) for my online order. The lady working the front was not organized, friendly nor helpful. She didnt announce orders or create a flow that allowed the patrons to pick up orders with minimal contact with each other. Unfortunately this visit gets worst, as all of the hash browns (4) I ordered were greasy, the potato was barely cooked and there was not a crunchy component. Extremely disappointing as they were nothing like the first time. The cinnamon biscuit roll was dull. Too little icing was provided, which was an additional paid for add on, and the biscuit had very subtle flavors with a hard exterior. The breakfast sandwich was accurate and average. The cheddar biscuit flavor was not pronounced, the eggs and bacon were similar to how I prepare them at home. Nothing about my second visit was good. I question, which experience is the fluke? But the second experience was so poor I am not inclined to return and find...
Read moreTried this biscuit spot and overall, it was just okay. The biscuit itself was mid—not bad, but definitely not the best I’ve had. (I love biscuits!) It reminded me a lot of a flaky Pillsbury biscuit, which some might love, but it wasn’t anything special to me.
What did stand out was the cinnamon roll. Super soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and flavorful. Make sure to add the side of icing (for a small charge) but it was totally worth it. Honestly, the cinnamon roll was the highlight.
Their website encourages you to order in person, stating: “IN PERSON ORDERING IS THE FUTURE!!!” They claim it’s faster and allows for more customization. Being that I couldn’t order what I wanted online, I did order in person, but was immediately asked if my dog (who was fully enclosed in a zipped-up/netted/ buckled stroller) was a service animal. She’s an ESA, so I let them know I was just ordering togo and wouldn’t be dining in and could wait outside. They said it was fine "this one time," explaining they previously got a health code violation for having a dog inside when an inspector showed up.
Out of curiosity, I checked the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment Inspection Reports and found no actual violation—just under “general comment” that they “discussed questions for service animals/investigator discussed animals in facility/discussed service animal policy/report sent to (email) along with service animal guidelines” Nothing about this even under “non-critical violations.” So while I understand their caution and wanting to follow the law, the approach came off a bit abrasive, which set the tone for the whole experience. And yes, they do have a sign on the front door stating “no dogs, service animals only”—which is fair. But it does raise the question: if customers have their esa/dog/cat with them and can’t go inside, how are they supposed to order to-go food when the website doesn’t allow for customizations and you don’t have a togo window? And no, my dog will not be sitting outside alone while I run in. Thanks...
Read moreA business, now matter how good the product, isn't highly reviewed if the service isn't that good.
Tucked away in a quaint Denver neighborhood, Rise and Shine Penn's Chapel Hill chicken biscuit sandwich is amazing.and fresh. As is the tiny gravy side but the wee portion isn't usually enough to slather a biscuit, especially when halved. Order two gravy if wanting biscuits and gravy and be mindful there are no plates. Gravy portion for the price... ...meh.
Americano was superb.
The employee who took the order and checked us out was curt and not pleasant in interacting with us but subsequent people was chatty and nice, as if the regulars were treated with better service.
Also the employee was so engrossed in the conversation, ie networking with patrons, and scrolling on a phone that they didn't even call out our order name for pickup at the counter when it was ready. It was off putting. This wasn't the first time, as it was similar sorts of service during previous visits.
Employee was scrolling between the lul in orders on a phone the whole time we were dining in.
Every table had crumbs on them despite no line and all employees standing around chatting and laughing.
I enjoy the food. The service leaves much to be desired and hopefully will improve. I just wish staff would be more aware of what is going on instead of engaging in socialization first and then work second.
Try them out. You'll be glad you did and maybe become a regular and get...
