Sunday Vinyl has one of the most impressive wine selections in Denver, with a unique focus on wine and vinyl music pairings. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the wine, and the lack of hospitality was especially shocking.
I visited with friends, and while the sommelier was knowledgeable, he was shockingly dismissive. When one of our party mentioned she liked that the Syrah was smoky, he told her she had an “immature palate,” which was rude and unnecessary. He was also completely incorrect about the tasting notes. He refused to serve another glass of the champagne from the flight, upsold her to a non-comparable option he claimed was similar, then under-poured her glass compared to the rest of the table. It set an uncomfortable tone for the evening.
When asked to add one more person to our reservation, the staff responded with visible exasperation and said they couldn’t accommodate three people even though the restaurant was half full. The rigidity and lack of warmth were disappointing in a setting meant to celebrate exceptional hospitality and connection.
We spent over $220 on wine and were treated as though we didn’t belong. On top of which, their water filter was beeping loudly over the music as well, we thought it was a door alarm. If we’re being asked to spend $32 on a grilled cheese with no sides, I would presume that some portion of that cost is intended to go toward a curated experience and supporting exceptional hospitality from a uniquely professional team. This visit did not meet those expectations.
The wine list itself is phenomenal, but the hospitality was condescending and cold. We would return for the wine itself, but not for the overall venue. This experience stands in stark contrast to Tavernetta, where genuine warmth and professionalism define every guest experience. It would be much more cost effective to buy 2 bottles of their Luis Pato and listen to vinyls in...
Read moreSunday Vinyl is a fantastic vibe that offers a variety of menu options like oysters, various Wagyu options, jamon iberico, and a variety of sides. We had been to Sunday Vinyl before and for a Valentine’s Day celebration. When we returned, we found ourselves impressed by our server’s knowledge but somewhat lukewarm on the quality of food for the price we paid per dish/side.
Our order included oysters, glazed pork belly, Sue Buxton scallops, potato pave, two gin martinis, and roasted turnips. The horseradish mignonette on the oysters had bold flavor but the texture of the oyster topping felt unfinished and tough. It wasn’t our favorite, but again, the flavor was bold and nuanced. The glazed pork belly came out with a crispy bottom that made the pork impossible to cut with a fork. The base crispiness kept the entire pork belly mass in tact and we ended up using forks to split the pork and that also wasn’t executed at a high level. The scallops and potato pave can’t be missed. Although I have some feelings about the price of the potato side (6 cubes of potato for $10), you have to understand the intensive process to make a pave in order to really appreciate it. The scallops were the dinner’s highlight - this is a well-rounded and excellently executed dish. Well done!
Overall, Sunday Vinyl is a special restaurant with excellent staff and a menu that is sure to please most guests. If you’re a bit more price sensitive then I would suggest other options in Denver for you. But for a date night, anniversary, or special night out, Sunday Vinyl is a Denver gem that...
Read moreHoly cow, what an experience! My boyfriend and I decided to venture out for our 5th anniversary and spent it at Sunday Vinyl for their Wednesday wine night. I had only had a few drinks there before, but never the full dinner and let me tell you, service was top notch. Most of the time when restaurants ask you if you are celebrating a special occasion, they tend to ignore or dismiss it, but at Sunday Vinyl they celebrated us and treated us to a fancy glass of Portugal sparkling wine before we even placed an order for drinks or food. Delaney, our server, walked us through all of the courses, provided wonderful recommendations, and spent a lot of time with us just going over a bunch of random questions that we both had about the food and dining. Not only was she amazing, but the whole staff really made our night so wonderful. Not to mention Frank Ocean was playing all night and really just set the mood for a great date with my boyfriend. This place is really purposeful with their intentions; from the simple yet elegant menu options, the incredible knowledge of the staff on the 100+ wines in their cellar, to the transition between meals in which they wiped our table down each time and replaced our silverware with fresh sets before each course. I mean truly it was fine dining exactly as it should have been, absolutely DELICIOUS (I mean I basically licked the plate), and I know we are both looking forward to our next visit! Thanks everyone who contributed to a great anniversary. Management and staff done well and high, high compliments to...
