The location is convenient for those who use the train, but unfortunately, that also seems to bring a lot of homeless people, who loiter all around the property exterior. Loyalty Club Recognition- In addition to being verbally thanked for our loyalty, we were upgraded and given the $10 Raid-the-Bar credit, which we used for a couple of sodas. The social password was good for two branded cup warmers. As Inner Circle members, we were also given a ‘welcome amenity’ bag that contained two waters, a small bag of snack mix, and a half bottle of wine., when we requested the ‘Guaranteed Inner Circle Benefit’ of a 4pm late checkout, we were told no. My spouse was seriously unhappy and had to call the Kimpton VIP Customer Service center to get them to honor the request. So upset was my spouse that we ended up leaving the property early. I will struggle to get him to come back to this hotel. Staff- The valet/bellman was courteous and immediately greeted us and offered to help us with our belongings. Conner, who checked us into the hotel, was polite, informative, and efficient. Kelly, the night auditor, was also a delight to interact with. Those three representatives deserve kudos for their customer service and engagement. However, Justin, was not as accommodating. He was combative about the Inner Circle late check out benefit and tried to tell us that the fine print said it is based on availability- this is not correct according to the website and the VIP Customer Service Center, which ultimately called the hotel to ensure this benefit. When it was pointed out on the website, more excuses were produced by Justin (‘we closed off select floors’, he doesn’t work the front desk and didn’t know, etc.) Although he did ultimately remove $24 worth of food and beverage charges, it left a very sour taste in our mouths. Regardless of which department your front desk representative is from, they should be fully trained before being made customer facing. Property Appearance & Maintenance- 5/5. Excellent. Loved the Alpine them of this property! Exterior- The property is clean and well branded. Interior- The lobby is clean and well appointed, as were the hallways. Few scuffs were present on the walls and baseboards, and all hallway lighting was operational. The carpets were nearly spot free. Accommodations- 5/5. Excellent. We were assigned a “King Spa Suite,” and it was fantastic. The bathroom was large and contained both a decent sized shower and a soaking tub. Bathroom counter space was limited. The living room was well laid out and furnished, and the bed was comfortable. Pictures of the room are included with this review. Housekeeping- 5/5. Excellent. The housekeeping staff does an excellent job! The carpets were vacuumed, and the bathroom floor was debris- and hair-free. All toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper, facial tissues, etc. were provided in a quantity adequate for the length of our stay. Pool/Gym- not evaluated. Breakfast/Meal Options- 4/5 Very good. Although the minibars are emptied, a ‘bodega’ is set up at the front desk with all the usual minibar items. The Citizen Rail restaurant is open. The Snack Board we had was very good, as were the (large!) mussels. The social/wine hour is held as is usual, and coffee was available (Keurig machines were available in the room upon request.) Computer/Printer/WiFi- 5/5 Excellent. WiFi was strong throughout the hotel and streaming was smooth. Other- COVID-19: sanitizing stations were present throughout the hotel, and even tissues to use on the buttons were present in the elevators. All employees wore masks over their nose and mouth, and they kept appropriate distance from each other and the guests. One serious concern I have is that the rooms are not left unoccupied before/after guests; a new guest is immediately accommodated in the same quarters. Be mindful of this when booking at this property. Closing off floors and doing this on the open floors is terrible practice...
Read moreOverall, a great stay for a long weekend. The room was comfortable, stylish, and had great views of downtown even though we weren't able to see the mountains on clear, smoke-free day. It was a real treat to have a snack and sparkling waters beautifully laid out for us in one of the King Corner Suites. We had a packed schedule but I wish we had more time because we didn't have a chance to experience the hotel amenities, restaurant, and access to local sites like the museum just down the street.
There were a couple of things we didn't love though.
The hotel was difficult to locate upon arrival at 2am local time, 4am our biological time. Because we were sleepy, and it was so dark on the streets, and the hotel signage wasn't lit, we felt it made the covered valet area feel like a dark alley we weren't supposed to drive down so we drove past the entrance twice before slowing down for a closer look. It would have been nice to have some signage or instruction otherwise for valet or late night arrival instructions. In our sleepy stupor, we had to ask a couple of seemingly random guys standing around the entry doors that were presumably employees but likely just on a break. They were nice, very casual, and called out for the valet guy to help us and let us in the locked foyer doors to check in at the front desk.
The other thing is when we book a nice hotel, I always look forward to trying their toiletries for a change. It was a big let down but didn't totally devastate our trip. I really appreciate a good product without lots of fragrance which I think was the intention here but it smelled like the products had gone bad with almost a moldy smell. When I opened the containers, they looked okay inside but sure didn't smell right. Products do expire after all. I nearly stopped in at a pharmacy so I didn't have to use what was provided. I know I should have just called down to the front desk to have them replaced but that's annoying and feels very pretentious which is off putting to me.
Also, a lot of the complimentary room items are available at special request to the front desk. I wish we could just request them ahead of time when booking the room. It seemed unreasonable to request little things late at night when we were actually occupying the room and wanting...
Read moreWe had an early plane to catch out of DIA and decided to stay at the Born for a night beforehand. Great decision!
We had an awesome stay, and I'm excited to share all of the great things we liked about Kimpton Born, but I really want everyone to know this: they charge a fee (ours was $21.53) and it is labeled "other charges" or "service charge" or something like that. When we booked it looked like it had something to do with access to a Tesla within a 2-mile radius, access to the local health club, the Denver museum of modern art, etc. So you are essentially paying for some local perks. That being said - we were refunded this $21.53 after our stay, and I can only assume because we didn't take advantage of any of these items. I just wanted to put it out there for anyone who might be turned off by the extra charge! I think it is totally cool that Kimpton actually gave us money back at the end of our stay!
The hotel was completed in October of 2017 (I believe) so everything is pretty much brand new. The staff are excellent. Every single person is very nice, courteous, professional, and has all the answers you need. The room was beautifully decorated.
The only thing we would change is that the WC in the bathroom (where the toilet is) has an open-top door, and the door to the bathroom itself is also not entirely sound-proof, and there is no fan in there. So you don't exactly have total privacy from your significant other in the bathroom. It wasn't a huge issue for us, but I could see it being a problem for some couples.
The Born sponsors a nightly wine/local beer hour, where guests can come have drinks and snacks at no charge - we loved this part of it.
The hotel is within walking distance to a ton of great restaurants, it has some really nice places to run around LoDo (if you're a runner/walker), and of course, it is a stone's throw from Union Station, so if you're flying out you just have to get up and walk out the door.
We will definitely...
