The most iconic and gentrified part of downtown Denver. A few small businesses that have survived the recent renovations are amazing and definitely worth your time. However, the new things that are moving in seem to be coming from either Texas or California and carry their business mentality. That being said, they're always quick to decorate with exciting new decorations for every event possible. Has someone who lives nearby? This is a good way to keep up with the events without necessarily hearing what's going on in the news. On the side facing the 16th Street Mall, there is consistently a group of drifters who are targeting people over the age of 40 in order to get donations for good causes. They are typically good people who are just trying to benefit the causes but the company they work for is basically a subscribe and forget money laundering scheme for charities. They have to leave you alone if you're wearing headphones and you don't acknowledge them. However, if you appear in any way elderly I would avoid that entire corner as they can be extremely aggressive in their efforts. Even as a young person myself, I found that if I'm moving too slowly or linger around that corner for too long, they'll strike up conversation with me. And as a neurodivergent individual have a hard time not speaking with them. I've never given him any money but that's because I don't have any money to give. I can highly recommend dogs savvy even if you are a cat owner. They've always treated my boy Marlo with the most respect and have been very accommodating to my complicated schedule. The bow place just around the corner is pretty good. I've only eaten there once, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere. They make a strong effort to make it feel like a Japanese restaurant. And the staff were pretty polite last time I was there. The seating for the Spanish restaurant consistently overflows into the street and sidewalk and often make it difficult for pedestrians to pass by without having to leer over people who are eating. I'd recommend sitting inside if you in any way. Have weird issues with people seeing you consume food (you know who you are). Lastly, The comedy club on the corner consistently advertises some celebrities that apparently do sketches within that theater. I've never been, but however, I've always noticed that they seem to be people who are on the verge of being canceled or their careers aren't necessarily going the right way. People who I'm like, "Hey I know that guy", or" didn't he get accused of some s*". Again, never been cuz I can't afford it, but their choice of celebrities seem odd and make me feel like I should avoid that building. Also, I'm extremely upset with the renovations as they practically changed nothing but getting rid of the original rock face and replacing it with artificial stuff. I don't know if that's California or Texas, but it makes me upset as someone who's used to natural inclusions in our architecture. Also, I understand if you're a visiting tourist or someone taking their day off. It is tempting to stand still and take pictures down the barrel. Please understand that people do live here in this city and work here. Because it's a city, a lot of us are in a rush. We don't want to run you over but when you're not paying attention to anything but your phone and the people who hopped up on the stage, You become more of an unpredictable hazard than a welcome guest. Please remain aware of your surroundings. Just cuz there are no cars does not mean that there aren't people trying to commute fast. E-Scooters are everywhere in the city, and I've been hit by at least three of them while following all safety procedures and...
