Location : Northfield Stapleton near the Yankee Candle store
2022 Visit Have been one of our go-to in Northfield Stapleton.
This visit, ordered: Basil Fried Rice (a fave!) Tender Chicken & Pork Sizzling Plate Love that they offer coffee in the menu!
No wait on a Tuesday, mid-afternoon.
The place has remained the same.
Still a favorite food destination.
(Original / 1st Review) This place used to be Ling and Louis, another Asian restaurant, which offered more items on the Chinese food line, whereas, Zen appears to have equal focus on "Shanghainese" fare AND Japanese (sushis, tempuras, etc.).
First visit, came for lunch and considering it was mid-week, there were quite a number of diners.
Ambiance upon entry is very unpretentious but with understated taste.
Miso soup, Basil Fried Rice with Chicken and Shrimp and the Mongolian Triple Delight. Both entrees were really really good, that my husband and I were already planning a return visit. Unfortunately, the Miso soup was a letdown. After 3 spoonfuls, I just couldn't appreciate lukewarm soup. Rhanie, our server, had to ask if the soup was not to my liking and was fantastic in her handling of the situation. Might I say, Rhanie would be another reason for a return visit. 5⭐ customer service! What the Miso lacked, the coffee more than made up for. Unlike a lot of restaurant coffee, theirs can equal Starbucks in strength, flavor and taste! Highly recommend and we will definitely be returning.
Update: Return Visit - April 2019 Weekend mid-afternoon. No wait but quite a lot of diners.
This visit, got Potstickers as appetizer, and Honey Walnut Shrimp and Curry Chicken and Pork, our main entrees with an order of Basil Fried Rice to go (we loved it from our first visit). Both the shrimp and the curry were winners. If you love spicy food, the curry will please you.
Service was good and looking forward to more visits to try other items. Highly recommend to...
Read moreDo not eat at Zen! Had a horrible experience with both food and customer service for take out. We called in an order at 6:50pm on a Wednesday. The lady on the phone told us it would be ready in 30 minutes. When we arrived 40 minutes later (to give some time to ensure it would be ready and to pick up ice cream for dessert on the way), it was not ready and I was informed it would be another 20 minutes before it was ready and after I had already paid. This timeline was unacceptable because there was also a dog in the car, and we thought it would be safe giving an extra 10 minutes. We asked for a refund and would get some different food on the way home, and were told that our food was going to be ready in 1 minute. Instead of working on our food or giving us a refund like we asked, the manager stood talking to us for another 5 offering free dessert, which we didn't want. We just wanted our food at that point. Eventually, 20 minutes later, the food came out. We went home and paid full price.
When we got the food out afterwards, the order was incorrect and/or inedible. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy in the least and was very warm. The lobster tempura roll had roe on it, when we explicitly stated to please put no roe on it. We even confirmed with the woman while placing the order that she understood no roe. We ended up throwing out half of the food because it was not good.
Finally, we called to let them know that even after all of that, the order was wrong and they offered to pay us back 50%. They said they would also send us a confirmation of the refund and he said it would take 5 minutes, and we still have not received that 1/2 hour later.
When a customer asks for a refund because they have not gotten their food yet, you should give it to them. We didn't even want the food at...
Read moreOur family has been going to Zen since it was Ling and Louie's years ago. We go as a family before heading to the movies. So it was a shock when I was charged 20% gratuity for a sushi order, one fried rice, and one entree. Especially when the waitress came to our table twice after we had to go and find her. We didn't even have a drink order, just water for the table.
Yesterday I brought my two kids and their two grandparents. The waitress didn't come to our table so I wrote down our sushi order, an order of fried rice, and a entree for my dad. I asked someone at the bar to call a waitress for us on my way to the restroom.
She brought our food, checked on us once, and went to have a snack with another staff member at the bar. No problem. It was only ourselves and one other couple in the restaurant.
When it was time to go my dad let her know we needed our ticket and to go boxes. Then she brought back my ticket with a 20% gratuity added. Our family has never been charged a gratuity before in at least ten years. I was so shocked but didn't want to ruin my family's outing. I don't mind leaving a tip but it should be commiserate with the service. I probably won't bring the family again for a pre-movie meal opting for the other restaurants that are family friendly in the area.
But the sushi is still great. I'll just get it to go. Which is a bummer because I even supported this restaurant through the pandemic, through air conditions breaking down in the summer.time, and I go before my facials and massages at Northfield. I think service is just declining across the...
