Castañeda's Mexican Food — Restaurant in Desert Hot Springs

I have never had a bad experience at a Castañedas/Santanas and love their food but I will not be going back to this one any time soon. I ordered the Chorizo Torta and I don't know what passes as chorizo these days but that was certainly not it. I was served what clearly tasted and looked like hamburger meat coated in egg (nowhere on the menu does it say the chorizo torta has egg!) and I went back to make sure that my order was correct only for the cook to get upset and assure me I was given chorizo while at the same time giving me a nasty look. While getting my refund this cook continued to mad dog me and say things about me and the food in spanish (which I speak). I don't know if the chorizo they use here is unseasoned or if it was even chorizo but even if it was that gives the cook no right to continually give me a nasty look when I didn't insult his cooking and simply wanted a refund for something I did not enjoy. The quality of the food has been declining for several months now. I don't know if they have a new cooking staff but the food is not what it used to be. Tonight was the last time I will visit the restaurant. I ordered red chilaquiles through the drive thru and they were horrible. The beans were bland and hard as if they had not been cooked from raw all the way through..the rice was very dry and simply old and the chilaquiles were with out flavor and burnt on the bottom. This was my last time giving then the benefit of the dought. Save your money go else where. The owner at Zapopan's can be a jerk but at least the food is really good there.....Casa Blanca...Matador...Tacoriendo.......anywhere...

I tried to rate it highly at first but this is the third time they've messed up an order out of my 10 orders recently. That's a 30% failure rate. I ordered the quesadilla combo and I always try to get two sides of guacamole. Again, they forgot the guacamole. Now it's like eating a rubbery cheese brick between the tortillas. Like the food is so mediocre that so many other places have better food so if I'm going here it's because it's open and if I can have the guacamole to hide the imperfections and terrible quality. I'm fine with it but once you forget that, again and again. Why am I even eating this. I'm not. Just support your local Mexican food vendor because this food...
