Can't say I'm a fan. Wall to wall hard surfaces and crowded quarters make this venue a sensory nightmare. If I hadn't brought hearing protection I would have needed to leave on the spot, and in hindsight I wish I'd done just that. The food was both disappointingly school-cafeteria-esque and astonishingly small portion sizes for the cost. I had the stew, which was less than a cup's worth spread out on a wide plate to appear larger, and served with a fork and knife but no spoon. The peas in it were undercooked and it was already lukewarm when it hit the table. The sandwiches others ordered looked similarly mediocre, but at least more substantial. For $17 a serving, this was nothing short of embarrassing. The mussels must be okay if people keep coming back for them, but if you aren't here for that, don't bother.
The waitstaff seemed to be doing their best in the chaos, but our server was impatient taking our order and didn't give my partner or I a chance to order a drink. We weren't given cups for water either. Despite being there for a party with a reservation, our table was approached multiple times by staff and guests asking us to relinquish chairs. A server came to tell us we needed to clear out when our feather bowling reservation started, even though we hadn't gotten the bill yet and several of our group were still eating.
I can see it making sense to come here for the novelty of feather bowling, or to catch a live music act. But save yourself the headache and eat...
Read moreThis place has an amazing beer selection and probably delicious food, too bad we never got to try any of it! We went during Memorial Day weekend so we expected a wait. First of all I have never sat at a stickier table in my life. The paper menu actually was stuck to the table it was so sticky. Our server was there long enough to take our drink order, only to discover they were out of my first two beer choices; no big deal. When we received our drinks our waitress said the kitchen was taking a 5 minute break to catch up; also no big deal. We then waited a solid hour, our drinks long gone. She and other staff walked by us multiple times, never brought us water and never asked if we wanted to order. We should have said something earlier but we were trying to be patient and respectfully wait our turn, which never came. The inside dining area only had 3 other tables full, so they definitely had to have seen us sitting there nervously staring at our menus. Worst service I have ever had, but atleast she gave us our drinks for free. As someone who also works in food service, I know how busy it can get and how frustrating it can be, but you never take it out on the customer. This was my first time here too so it is very disappointing to say I won’t...
Read moreI hate having to write this review.
Everybody's been affected by COVID-19, but the Cadieux Cafe has been dinged especially hard. They admit as much by notices posted saying that a labor shortage has caused them problems.
I was there Sunday night to see a favorite band in the outdoor "Mussel Beach" concert area. It took 30 minutes before a waitress came to our table and another hour before we got our food; we never got the drinks we asked for with that order. Perhaps this is because our waitress didn't write down our order. (I don't understand why this happens at so many restaurants; a pen and pad of paper should be mandatory for anybody waiting tables.) Additionally, the food quality seems to have slipped.
Everybody's doing the best they can under these circumstances and I'll cut them some slack because of that. I still like the place, just as I have for the many years I've been a customer. I'll continue to patronize Cadieux Cafe when they bring in bands I like. But I suggest that you bring plenty of patience and that you dial down your expectations when it comes to food, drink and service. I hope that things improve ... because improvement is...
